Throw out Bearing T5 Swap

First I want to say thank you for everyones help so far on my T5 swap.

Heres my problem:

I am using a T5 bell and hardware to do this swap. But I am also using my 65 flywheell and clutch. I am also going to use the modern driveline cable clutch kit. I have the flywheel and clutch installed, but the throwout bearing from the 65 Clutch kit doesnt match the T5 Clutch fork. What are my options here. Can I get just a new throw out bearing for a 90 and just use that with the 65 clutch and pressure plate? Thanks for your help in advance.

I could be wrong, but I think you need to use a flywheel and clutch etc for a 5.0. This is how mine is setup. Maybe you can run a late model clutch on an early flywheel, but I'm not sure. I have the MD clutch cable as well. I haven't driven the car yet since there are a few other details to iron out, but the install wasn't bad.

You should just be able to use the 5.0 throw out bearing since you are using the 5.0 bell and clutch fork. Go buy one, worst thing that happens is it doesn't work and you can return it. You can test it without the trans in the car by puting the clutch disk alignment tool in to keep the disk in the right spot and bolting up the bell/linkage. Have someone stomp the pedal while you check it. It might be a good idea to do this test anyways just to make sure you are geting enough travel out of the clutch cable. I believe you need between 1-1 1/8" inch of travel for a diafragm style clutch. Not sure on the travel needed for a 3 finger clutch.

So I should be able to use the 90 throw out bearing then.

One other question what about a 10" 79-85 clutch kit would that bolt up to the 65-68 flywheel? I believe it uses the same style throw out bearing.

I believe the 65-68 flyhweel uses an 11" clutch. I don't think you can bolt it on. Also, the 79-85 clutch is a diafragm type, not the 3 finger type.

I have the 65-68 Flywheel, using a 10" clutch 157 tooth. The clutch is a Diaphragm conversion style not the original 3 finger style. Sorry should have been more specific on that one. I have attached a picture from when I first got it if that helps. I got it from CJ Pony parts.

Try and see if the clutch bolts up. The throw out bearing for the 79-85 is the same as the 90 BTW.

Thats what I figured. I just need to see if they have the same bolt pattern. There should be no real difference correct.

Ok I picked up a 79 clutch today. I got the 10" and the bolt holes on the pressure plate all seem to match up. The throw out bearing also fits the t5 clutch fork.

Quick question here does anyone know if there are any other differences I should check for before I install this? Weight and size seem to be about the same.

The fingers on the late clutch are 1" shallower than the OE clutch.

I had a early style diaphram clutch and tried to install the MD clutch cable kit. No dice. I had to buy a late style clutch, disc, and throwout bearing to make it work.

Sounds like you will be ok.

My T5 setup includes an 85 bellhousing. stock roller 67 clutch linkage and fork with a spacer. 157 tooth 28 oz flywheel and it works good together.
