Throw out bearing tick????

Hi am hearing a ticking noise when accelarating... Gets quicker as if I speed up.. but doesn't happen when I just rev the car... Kinda seems to be related to the clutch a bit... Has anyone had problems with the throw out bearing... If that was shot... what noise would it make... could it be a flywheel problem..??? I am guessing it is the throw out bearing though... just replaced the clutch about 3 years ago and this ticking has been going on for the last 2 years... but got pretty bad this last year!! Any ideas... Oh and it's definetely not a exhaust leak... I got brand new headers and ticking is there before and after... so definetely not that... I have been having a bit of transmission problems.. grinds going into reverse... have to go to 1st then reverse quickly.... I am planning on getting the trans rebuilt.... anyways though any help would be greatly appreciated...
 
Yes it could be you have a worn out TB, I thought mine was ticking, replaced it whith a centerforce one and my car still ticks. I just woke up so i dont know what its called at this time, the arm that connects to the throwout bearing and clutch cable, those can tick and make noise at times when they are worn out. well i hope i made some sence and sorry i couldnt be more descripitive at this moment. :D
 
Hey thanks for the reply... any thoughts are definetely appreciated... do you know if that arm that connects the throw out bearing to the clutch cable can be replaced without pulling the transmission... I do intend to attempt to rebuild my transmission at some point.... but it would be nice to save that till winter time when I park the car and can do it in the garage.... during off time!! Any other ideas about that ticking anyone??
 
i believe the arm you're talking about is either called the fork or lever and yes you'll need to pull the trans to replace it.

your ticking could be because you have a groove on the bearing retainer it's the thing the tb rides on, and yes you'll need to pull the trans to fix that if that is your problem.
 
no doesn't vibrate.... definetely not the u joints... I also replaced the yoke thinking it was that... but probably replaced a few u joints that didn't need to be replaced... Ok thanks for all the replies...
 
yes you have to drop the tranny to remove the arm, mine ticks and ticks and ticks, a few months back it did to much ticking and knocked the cover that goes over the bell housing off into the street somwear-hahaha (cover that covers arm and clutch cable ball) but yeah i got another and i push the clutch in and somtimes the ticking goes away. But like i was saying before they do sell replacment parts for that, if you get that with a new clutch get a new throw out bearing, arm-what ever its called and dont forget to lube the shaft when all parts are installed. I made the mistake of installing a new flywheel, clutch and throw-out bearing and still hear the tick to this day. But its ok cuz my car drives fine. :D
 
I know mine made more of a growl/whine than a ticking, but you might also consider the input shaft bearing, too - give it a look while you've got the tranny out for the throwout bearing anyway. If in doubt, replace 'em both - less than $25 for both, hardly worth having to drop the tranny later to do it again. (Be darned careful about the needle bearings behind the input shaft when you take it out! Those things are a PITA to put back in all nice and neat, believe me...)
 
Mine was doing the same crap and appeareantley the stock T-5 has an aluminum bearing retainer that wears out and need's to be replaced with a steel bearing retainer that at the most will run you about $60....I found one on ebay for $40...good luck.
