Throw Out Bearing $$

I have a World Class T-5 in my 66 Fastback... Long story short I'm changing the throw out bearing, Ford wants $46 bucks for one !!! Mustangs Unlimited price is half that.
Anyone have any insight on if one is beter than than the other, I'm on a tight budget so need to save as much as I can. Many Thanks.

why would you buy anything from a Ford dealer????Any parts place is gonna be less.

Some times, you still do get what you pay for.
Ford is the OEM, the MU part is probably made in China. Compare shipping VS local purchase, and potential customer service.

If I could afford it, I'd buy a lot more of my stuff from Ford.

I would like to save some $$$ but on the other hand if the “Ford” bearing last longer then I will be happy to pay the extra.

Those aren't the only sources for parts. Your local parts house stocks these parts. And likely has at least two brands to choose from. As for Ford's parts not being made in China and being a better quality, that's not necessarily true. Ford outsources their parts to other countries too.

ford racing throwout bearing 36 bucks, or timken throwout bearing. those are the ones most high performance 5.0L guys use

Agree.Ford does not make their own parts(or FRPP) and Ford gets bid on parts like everybody else is no better. When i was at Ford, we sold junk like everybody else.

I got one left over from a kit I dont need.

Got the kit from Modern Driveline but used a hydraulic clutch, so its just laying around. Anybody know how we could tell if this is the right part he needs?

FYI, my T-5 is also a World Class if that helps.

Just a warning. The Ford TO bearing SUX on late model Mustangs. They are notorious for squeeling. I would order a good timkin.

the late model quadrants don't adjust them properly, that is why they fail. they stay continuously engaged, which is a no-no.

If by "stay continuously engaged" you mean keeping contact and spinning, you are correct, as they do. They are designed this way by Ford and there is nothing wrong with that. Most all of us who have done a T5 swap now have this design in our cars. If you have one making noise then it has either dried out (probably used?) or you have a bad one. I have never had an issue with this.

NAPA usually has good Made In USA stuff. Autozone & Oreilly should have the good stuff also, you just have to ask for it or they will give you the Made in China one.
