So does anybody know what a bad throw out bearing sounds like? I've got an annoying sound coming from up front while driving and it goes away when the clutch is in.

Thanks for the help

With my experience, a bad TO bearing will make a nasty sound when the clutch is depressed. I've never heard a problem when the clutch was disengaged, possibly a bad pilot bearing, or input shaft bearing?

I've been told a pilot bearing will only make noise with the clutch in, because that is the only time it is engaged.

Tomorrow is the first chance I will have to get her up in the air, so I'll check it out then.

It's sounding more and more like a input shaft bearing....

I've had a NUMBER of TOBs that only made noise until pressure was applied to the pedal. Nearly all of them were aftermarket TOBs.

I'm a firm believer in FORD FACTORY TOBs and steel retainers.

*Skreet-skreet-skreet-skreet*

Me: Damn *adds a little more tension to the clutch cable to get rid of the noise until I have a chance to drop the tranny and swap out the TOB*

The pilot bearing is always 'engaged'.
When it goes out, first you get vibration (Said vibration CAN take out the tranny's input bearing!), and then you get jumping out of gear.

Nice... See if another turn counter-clockwise gets rid of the chirp for you.
