Hey guys i go to start my 97 gt today and it just made a tick and nothing else. So i thought i had left the light on and i tried the radio but it works fine and i tried jumping it but the battery is healthy. It does not try to turn over or nothing just makes one single tick and thats it. I drove it last night and it drove fine and started fine the whole time. Could i be the starter? and if it is where is it lol and how do i take it out so i can take it to auto zone to test it and verify. thank you in advance.

Hey dude sorry to hear about that but it sounds like the starter or the starter solenoid. Both of these are easy to find because they are side by side. They are located under the passenger side of the motor by the bell housing. I think there are like two or three bolts holding it on. Hope that helps

Can give the starter a love tap and try it again but sounds like the starter is going. I always replace the starter/solinoid together cause if one just died then chances are the other will fail soon too.

yup sounds like a starter. not the easiest job to do...one of the starter bolts is a real bear to get out if you dont have the proper tools (swivel sockets, extensions, etc.) i may get some heat for this but do yourself a favor and dont buy an auto zone starter. it may be just be where i live but auto zone parts have a really high warrenty rate around here and the job is not easy, so you will only want to do it once you know.

Autozone sux but I was just pointing out any auto parts store will have it. And while not everyplace has an O'Rellis or NAPA or Pep Boys EVERYONE has a damn Autozone. :nonono:

Before you buy a new starter, disconnect the battery and loosen up the + and - connections on the starter. See if you can scrape any excess rust off the terminals. Then re-tighten them and connect your battery up. Smetimes rust can cause a ground problem and cause your vehicle to experience what its doing now. Try it and see what happens.
