Hi guys wondering what the sound is.

Can only hear it on part throttle when engine is cold during cooler weather...

Is does a tick tick tick coming from engine bay but no ticking at idle.

Any clues? Engine going bad?

4.6 with about 120k
No oil burn, no trouble at start up, etc.

Another thing

I almost forgot.
Another weird thing is that the ticking is not proportional to engine speed...

At first I thought the engine was going bad but then noticed that it wouldn't do it at idle, it does it only under some load. So I thought maybe something in the crank area (bearings) was getting weak and rubbing only under load because of the twist.

Then I noticed that as I would speed up, the ticking interval does not shorten, hence the ticking stays the same as engine speed rises. At a certain speed then I can't here it but I think it's probably because of wind/engine/road noises.

I have no clue.

Well if the tick speed is unrelated to engine speed it must be the fan clipping agains the shroud or something dangling into the fan blades...

Wow

No clue, I'll have to check the front end carefully...

I'll have to see if it does it when I slowly rev the engine but standing still in neutral.
