Ticking when i turn on ignition???? need new battery, which1

hey guys, i got an issue going on. i just did another tune-up a few days ago, and went out to change the oil today. after i changed it, i went to go turn the car on, but nothing. the battery is good, i even charged it a bit(it's mint), and the terminals are good. so i get in, there is power, the dome light is on, and then i turn the key and it starts to tick, and seems to short out, and won't even turn over... :( any ideas fellas, i'm pissed because i wanted to dyno it tomorrow, and i got ffw next saturday

Did you happen to short out the battery by chance. I just did this in my friends 98 cobra-the trunk mounted battery cable melted through next to his long tube header and shorted out against it. I charged the battery, it showed 12 volts, but it did the same thing you are saying. So I pulled the battery out of my car and it fired right up. Hope it is something that easy for you too.

Just give it all a once over. you could have a loose cable connection. Also, volt readings and even charging amps (from your charger) does not indicate that a battery is good in terms of handling a load dispersement (like cranking). Parts stores can bench test batteries if need be.
But if you did not have this issue before, just go over everything you disconnected or touched while doing the tune-up.
Good luck.

well i just came back, and bought a red top optima. $109 !!! not cheap, but i'll be an extra peice of mind for years to come(i hope). i'm gonna look for another battery for my 88 lx, less money this time, any suggestions? and thanks alot everyone for your help, it was driving me nuts!
