Tie-rods

I took my Cobra to be aligned this afternoon, and the wheel sensors couldn't communicate with each other cause my driver outer tie-rod is bent real bad.. How hard are these to replace? Easy to do in driveway?

did you hit a curb? if so hopefully thats all that bent. Outer tie rod is very easy to do. jack up your car and remove the wheel. Lossen the lock nut between the inner and outer tie rod. remove the cotter pin and nut on the outer tie rod. take a hammer and if you hit the knuckle on the side where the stud for the tie rod goes through it will come out. or get a pickle fork and place it between the tie rod and knuckle and hit the fork with a hammer it will come loose. Count the turns it takes to remove and reinstall new one the same amount, that will get you close enough to do alignment. i like to put a little anti sieze on threads of tie rod. hope that helps.

they're real easy. just remember to count the turns it takes to get the old one off so you can put the new one with the same number of turns. then get it aligned.

Sweet, and what about the dust boot.. I kinda dimly remember some permenent clamps holding it on... How do you get those off/what to replace them with?

sorry, it just occured to me you meant inner tierods (still recovering). those are more difficult but still doable. it's much easier if you get/rent an inner tierod socket (some may use pins instead of a nut). best bet is to read through the manual before you start to make sure you have what you need to do the job.

Its a surprisingly easy job. I actually changed my entire rack assembly and tie rods/ends last weekend in about 3 hours taking my time at it. should take you a couple hours if you don't have trouble unscrewing the inner tie rod from the rack. Hardest part was hammering-off the outers from the spindles since I didn't have that little puller tool thing, I have a pickle-fork but it did me no good.

Unfortunately, the modular guys don't seem to know much about tech.. I go to SVT-Performance and most people are busy discussing what rims and headlights will look best with their Mystic paint... hahaha They'd filet me with a butcher knife if I told them my car was originally mystic. (Mystic is $900 a quart if I recall correctly... way too rich for my blood)

But since these cars are the same body, I'd much rather ask you guys, since you/we actually work on our own stuff.

Nah, it's a coppery red now. I like the color. I wouldn't have guessed it was originally Mystic, except I have paperwork from the car when it was new. It's been completely color changed.
