I had "originally" planned to leave for richmond for Fun Ford Weekend tomorrow afternoon. Well....

Upon completion of my C4 swap I made my first passes today and it sucked.
The first run it didn't stall any and pushed the front wheels 2 feet past the lights and down the track it stayed at about 4600rpms even after it shifted.
The best run was a 8.30 (in the 1/8th) with a 1.92 60 ft.

After 2 back to back crappy runs I started loosing fluid around the pan gasket, selector shaft seal, ect.

So I just got back and I'm taking a 5 minute break before I start my T5 swap....again. Hopefully I'll be done in time to leave tomorrow.

If you pushed through the lights, it sounds like the power is there, just needs some tuning up!

Seriously, I would try making sure the back brakes are working, as they are all that is holding you at the line, until you get a trans brake.

The sixty foot is not bad.

Did you try manually holding the gears?

My C4 has a TCI street strip valve body, and if I leave it in drive, it will shift at 4500 or so. If I use it manually, it holds to 6000 or so. Its always done it, and I guessed it was because the governor that is in the trans came with 2.47 rear gears. I have not changed it, since it seems to shift perfectly manually.

What stall converter did you install?

I have a TCI 10 in, that stalls at 2800 to 3000. I get my best launches by not braking the car against the converter, just stage at idle and floor it to launch. Its done .004 lights and 1.88 sixty foots that way. I figured that if I brake against the converter, I have used up most of the accellerator pump travel, and it has no shot left after the launch. Obviously this only applies to carbed cars.

Good luck in Richmond. I want to make it up there, but this time of year is always busy.

My C4 has the TCI trans brake full manual reverse. I also don't believe the governor circuit is used either since it has no kickdown.

I was just trying to stall it to build boost before the launch. The converter is a 9.25" from a pinto also known as the F29. These commonly stall around 3k but I couldn't get it to do it. As soon as boost started coming up it was trying to move.

With the 5spd I was hitting 1.68-1.69 60's all day in the heat. With the 351 and spray I had 1.55 60's.

Here's the Big thing. I decided to go back and check the cam timing and it was off a tooth. I stuck a new timing belt on it and seems ok now.
Oddly enough it did idle smooth and revved ok, plus had a little more vacuum than usual. Otherwise you couldn't tell as side from it being slow.

Oh yeah definitely 5spd again. I also discovered the ignition timing was at about 15*. Not Good.

Now that the cars seems fixed up and ready to rip it started pouring as I was setting the timing. so I loaded it in the rain and I'll probably get up and leave about 3am.
