Hello everyone, new to the site...here is my question:

Please review my mods. I have a Predator tuner that a shop here in Columbus is going to use to tune my car (on a dyno). Do I have enough mods to warrant a tune? Can I expect decent gains?

Thanks

I used a diablo on my car and i dont have a lot of mods, just basic bolt ons. I saw mabey 10-12hp gain but the car does run better and more efficiently. With that amount of mods you might want to just use the handheld instead of paying a fortune to get it dyno tuned. Just my .02

If you have an aftermarket MAF, you likely need a tune to straighten it out.
You have a 160 degree thermostat, so the fans should be adjusted to match it. If you don't already have a speed cal, you can correct the speedo for your gears. There will likely be some gains from bumping the timing, and once the MAF is dialed in, the commanded a/f can be raised from 12 to 13. Another thing to have them do is to change the adaptive control table values, setting all values to 5. I won't go into all of the technical jargon on this, but basically in stock form, the adaptive control learns everything it know when the car is at idle, then applies that value back to the entire rpm range. Changing the values to 5's will allow each specific rpm point to learn from itself and apply it back the next time around. The car will run much smoother if this is done.

Thanks for the info jstreet, it is appreciated. I plan on installing headers, an x-pipe, and a plenum in the near future. Should I maybe wait to tune until this is done? I'm nervous about re-tuning over and over ($200 each time).

If your MAF is dialed in good the first time, you should not need to re-tune after those mods. People tend to get confused and think that increasing the breathing capability of the engine automatically means that you need to retune. The purpose of the MAF based fuel injection is to adapt to flow of air coming into the engine. Where you run into problems, is changing the MAF sensor, or changing the dynamics of the air flowing through it by using a CAI with an elbow directly infront of the MAF.

Do you have an aftermarket MAF on there now?

Yes, the MAF is aftermarket; not sure of the manufacturer.

If you can find out who made it, hopefully PRO-M, try to get the MAF curve data that goes with it. If you can't find it let me know and I will try to find one on the tuning boards. This will save some time since it will give the tuner a good starting point. But to be honest you'd probably be better off putting the stock on back on if you have it.

I don't have access to my Mustang right now, but I am fairly certain it is a Pro-M MAF sensor.

If it is then the tuner should be able to get the MAF curve fairly easy.
