My current blower (S-Trim) decided to take a vacation for a lil bit (to Vortech for a rebuild) but since that lil hoe decided to leave me high and dry w/o any warning, I'm thinking about getting a new girl in my life....say a T or YS.
Wanted some opinions to see what you guys thought. I was spinning the S pretty hard and only seeing 12-13psi, would like to have something with some serious CFM (for growth) and that could turn 15-16psi all day w/o a prob.
The combo this is on is-
347 (8.5 cr), 75mm TB, AFR 185s, Holley Int, 1 3/4 LTs
Fuyll fuel system, and a block filled with kryptonite
I was overspinning the S-Trim a lil, and like the thought of a T/YS because they have more impeller speed, and can make the boost i want easier.
Heres some info
S-Trim=1000cfm 50,000 max impeller speed 20psi max
T-Trim=1200cfm 55,000 max impeller speed 26psi max
YS-Trim=1600cfm 65,000max imeller speed and 30psi max

I like the YS best obviously for the potnetial, but I'm worried a lil about loosing some downlow.

Looking for 650-700rw

Thanks,
Paul

I dont want a YSi, why i put YS....when i talked with Vortech they said the YSi's efficienty is killed unless its a stright volute...I'll be running a curved, why they rec'd the YS...and why i put YS up there

Car has a tko600, and is dynotuned via chip

Wow, what block are you running?

I say screw it. Take it all off and sell it. Then with the $$ you recoup, add a little more to it & invest in a turbo kit. You'll then efficiently get the boost you need......

DOnt you need to worry about a new block if you go much higher?

Also, all the other upgrades, fuel system, rear end, tranny, etc?

SOrry about the VOrtech....I know that YOU know I just went through that myself....They will let you "trade up", right?

Turbo would be nice, but i cant afford it at this time, the car is setup for a blower already...and a T/YS would fit in my exsisting brackets

I'm just tired of working the S so hard...i have outgrown it

I am upgrading from a KB Blowzilla to a T trim. I have a built 331 with Victor Jr's. I too was way overspinning the blower. The modeling I did with desk top dyno shows that I dont really gain much with the YSI over the T trim unless really looking for high boost and high RPM.

The YSI will come in at a higher RPM. I am going to shoot for 18# Its also best to do the drivers side install according to Vortech.

The YSI is really designed for Renegade class and not that hot on the street.

I Had ordered the YSI then cancelled it after seeing that my combo would make power to 10k if I could spin it that high with the T Trim.

YSI is overkill for the most part IMHO.

sportsman block Rest of my combo. Ported GT40 Lower, Downs Ford box upper, 60# inj, Fuel system, 80mm TB, 1 3/4 Longtubes, Tremec TKO, SPEC III, Lakewood bell, Auburn Pro, 3.73, 31 Spine axles, MSD Billet dist, MSD 6 Offroad...and so on.

I'm not educated enough on blowers to make a suggestion, but what did Vortech say the differences in the low end boost repsonse would be between the T and YS trim? How fast does each one need to be spun to be in its efficieny zone? What RPM are you planning to spin the thing to?

Check out the blower maps on the Vortech site. You need to be really spinning with the YSI. T trim is the largest they recommend for street use.

He has a stock block and a stroker and probably a hyd cam so that would limit the RPM.

I figured tops was 6500 for my 331

I have found Desk Top Dyno to be very accurate given the correct parameters.

All good points MAtt, great feedback

Vortech even sells a YS kit at 10psi for stock motored cars..haha
They rec'd the YS to me over the YSi, said i would make all the hp my S does down low and more tq, but from 4k and up the YS would just leave the S-Trim.

As for the T vs YS, both are great and can make huge power, but the shear CFM the YS spits makes it own.
They also said the YS is a lil harder to turn than a S/T but if the motor is built decent and can get thru the rpms well, its not a issue. With the right pulley combo on a YS you can see 15-18psi at my desired rpm (6200)
I would have much more room to grow, and wouldnt be spinning the blower near as hard, and wouldnt be anywhere near being outta its efficienty range.
They said the YS shines best at 16-22psi range, although they do sell a kit (isnt the H.O.) for 10psi stock motor cars haha

Killer
I was spinning my S-Trim to 52000rpm and was outta its range (50k max)
The T can be spun to 55000 just a lil more
The YS is 65000...see what I'm saying

Once you hit that, the blower isnt producing good boost...just hot air

With a 8rib setup i dont know exactly what i was turning the S to cause I know there was slippage in their, but according to the pulley calculator, i was at 52k
Either way...i was spinning it for all it was worth
