Timing backing down on its own

I recently got my Trickflow H/C/I all together, and am very happy with it. I have a problem with the timing backing down. I set it at 20* spout out initially, and after a day of driving the car, I checked the timing because it seemed a little sluggish. Sure enough, the timing had dropped to 8*. I put it back to 20* and today it was running crappy again so I checked the timing and this time it was at 4* so I bumped it back up to 20* again.

When I put it back to 20* the last time, the distributor hit the water neck by 15*, so I advanced the rotor a tooth to achieve 20* again.

The timing chain is new, and I am suspecting its going bad. Any ideas? Should I tear the timing cover off and inspect the chain? Could the computer be pulling timing?

Thanks for any advice!

lol, very true... Corral in much better for tech questions... Stangnet is good for a laugh. :nice:

As for your question.. I had the exact same thing happen to me... Turned out to be the cam bolt was backing itself out and it threw the timing chain eventually... I'd suggest taking the cover back off and checking it.
