Does anyone know if a timing chain cover from a 98gt will fit a 2001?

They will NOT work. The belt tensioner is different and bolts up completely different from 98 to 01.

This:

Crown Victoria '00-02
Grand Marquis '00-02
Lincoln & Town Car '00-02
Mustang '00 8-280 (4.6L), (SOHC, GT, VIN X)
Mustang '01 8-280 (4.6L), SOHC (GT, VIN X)
Mustang '02 8-280 (4.6L), (SOHC, GT, VIN X)

To this:

Cougar '96-97 8-280 (4.6L)
Crown Victoria '96-99
Grand Marquis '96-99
Lincoln & Town Car '96-99
Mustang '96-97 8-280 (4.6L), SOHC (VIN X)
Mustang '98-99 8-280 (4.6L), SOHC (GT, VIN X)
Thunderbird '96-97 8-280 (4.6L)

Are you referring to the 3 bolt vs. 1 bolt tensioner? Or do the front covers themselves just not "fit" the engine?

I have a 99 cover on my 2002 engine and I had to buy a 3 bolt tensioner, but other than that it bolted right up. The 3 bolt tensioner is MUCH stronger too.

The tensioner is what I was referring to.
