timing cover, what vehicles???

Need a new Timing cover for my Fiance's 96 V6. What years/make can I get one from if I'm going junkyard digging? Ford wants $178 for a new one...

You'll be hard pressed to find a Explorer with a 3.8... because there is no such thing.

A 96+ 3.8 cover will work. I had a couple extras and threw them out a couple months ago.

Nor was there ever a 4.2L in a Mustang, but that block from an F-150 will fit, and so will all our externals from the 3.8L fit onto that block.

I said that I just read about it before I looked here, so shove off. I never said that the Explorer had a 3.8L, only that the timing chain cover would fit.

I went back and tried to find the article I read, but I don't have the time to sit here and argue with over the Internet, so go look for yourself.

One tries to help someone out, and then they run into the likes of a smart@$$.

Explorers do not have the 4.2L if that is what you are trying to imply. They do have a 4.0L, but that is entirely different engine family. That cover will not work on a 3.8.

I take responsibility to give accurate information... my moto is if I don't know it for sure, don't post it. That is how bad info gets spread around the internet. So if you don't know for a fact, don't guess.

I know 4.2's and 3.8's. I was one of the first people to have a centrifical supercharged 3.8 and one of the first to ever do a 4.2 and on top of that with split port heads on a 94-98. I designed the first modified fuel rail for a split port swap in a return fuel system car. I'm not some GT guy acting like I know it all. I've paid my dues, learned on my own, and didn't have all the information that is available now. I was one of the ones that experienced it and made the accurate information available.

You are no help if your information is wrong...

You said one from an Explorer will fit. And the only engines that share a 3.8L timing covers are the 3.8's and 4.2's. So how do justify your comment that an Explorer timing cover will work?

You are wrong. How about you prove you are right... the burden of proof is on you, kid. You are the one making incorrect statements. Just because you "read" it, doesn't make it fact. The fact I have hands on experience with 3.8 and 4.2 engines and know them inside and out make me far more an authority of the truth than you "read it somewhere".

You are dense. DENSE. 4.0's are a 60deg engine, 3.8's and 4.2's are 90deg engine. Totally different engine. And... I have a Ranger... with a... guess... what... engine...
