I am about to install a new timing chain and timing gears in at 67 289. The motor is out of the car so I have total access to it. Does anyone have any tip or tricks for this installation? I have the front of the motor striped down, the next step is to install the the chain and gears.

Thanks

A

I've never done it on a SBF, but it can't be too different from anything else. Remove the bolts that hold the larger gear to the cam. Remove the gear and chain. Use a 3 jaw puller to remove the lower gear. Heat the new gear before installation and it should slide right on to the crank. Put the chain on and bolt the upper gear in place.

Maybe it goes unsaid but I should line up the timing marks on both gears correct? This is my first time installing a timing chain.

It is necessary to use a puller to pull the crank gear?

YES. Make sure you are at TDC on the #1 piston also, just in case.
