Timing & HP?

14 seems too high. What kind of setup are you running? Make sure the engine doesn't ping. Usually between 10-12 is good unless you're running locked timing.

If running locked timing, it's set close to 30*.

14* advance is quite common - no two engines react the same to a timing change and they all handle varying amounts of advance before audible detonation occurs.

There is a point before audible detonation where power falls off - just something to remember (and a reason to not run on the ragged edge of pinging).

I run 18 degrees of timing and 89 octane with zero pinging. Tried 20 but made less power as Hissin described! The only way to get a number from bumping the timing is to be at a track or dyno, everything else is just a guess!
