i just bought a new timing pointer from npd. it says that it is for late and early 289 and 302. i thought that they were on different sides? i am trying to put it on a 302 timing cover and cant figure out the mounting to have it come near the balancer. doe sanyone have any pics omn how it mounts to the cover, or any creative solutions. the balancer is from a 289 and the cover from a 302 so i have to find tdc any way and put timing tape so a creative location does not matter.

thanks , matt

Lucky you,my cover is off now so a pic is easy. You use a existing bolt and add a smaller one to the top.

It is gone now, but was there yesterday.

He mounted his low on the driver's side using one of the stock cover to block bolts. The other end was up at around a 10:30 position and appeared to nearly meet an existing accessory hole. A little reaming or drilling was required.

At least that is what I got out of the picture. . . . .

set the engine at true TDC.
install pointer anywhere on the front cover, install timing tape with new zero location at pointer.
You may want to scribe a permanent line on the balancer, timing tape has the problem of flying off sometimes.
