Timing pointer on 82' 5.0 location?

I bought this 82' 5.0 but I do not understand where the timing pointer goes? I'm not familiar with this timing chain cover, is it correct for this motor? What is this mounting point used for in photo (see attached photo). If this is where the pointer goes would you post a photo with pointer mounted?
