Alright the stang is runnin a little rough for a while now, idles bad, starts and 1000 and drops and back up and drops and evcentually kills, figured it might be the timing, so i have it timed to 25 advance, started to run and idle good, but then i put that little clip back into that haness by the distributor that i was told ur supposed to take out before u time it, and so whenever i put it back in it starts idleing crappy again, am i doing somethin wrong here??
thanks,
-Brandon

well without the clip it idles great runs way smoother, even runs smoother at higher rpms down the road, but when i put that clip in it idles rough, rpms bounce from 1000-500 uo and down for a while before it kills and it makes kind of a viberation under load at high rpm...can i just run without it in?? or will somethin bad happen?

question.......are you putting the spout connecter in while it is running or not running?this does make a difference.
1.pull spout
2.adjust timing
3.turn car off and reconnect spout
i did it wrong the first time i ever done this,it did the same thing.but it could also be a bad idle air control valve or throttle position sensor

it locks timing in one spot.this sounds like it would be fine to leave it out, but with electronic fuel injection, when air fuel mixture is changing because of throttle response the computer compensates by either retarding or advancing the timing in small increments to smooth everything out.so if you left it out you would run lean and detonate at one moment and run rich and smoke, flood or detonate the next.

I dont think you need to turn off the car before you reconnect the spout...although i could be wrong...

hmm sounds like its kinda somethin i need...and i kinda messed up and made a new problem...i took it out and test drove it down the road, forgetting i left it somewhere in the engine bay...and now its gone...lol any way i can get a new one...

yes i realize my stupidity... lol

yea basically it just disables the computer from the advancing or retarding the timing...and just set it from 10-14 with the spout out and no need to worry about what it says when u put it in, the computer does that, i always put mine in while its running though, seems fine to me...what could happen bad if i keep doing it?
