timing problem

I have a gt40 of a 2000 ford explorer and my timing sucks my car stubles from 900 to like 1200 rpm the car does not move and it kind of backfires i have it at 14 deegres please help or is it something else?????

There are a lot of reasons for a surging idle. First off, when you set your timing for 14 degrees, you did it with the spout connector removed, right?

i have a carb on it so no electrical stuff i have a vacum advance i need help is my only car
