alrite i tried to set my timing today i disconnected the spout set the timing at 14 degrees shut the car off put the spout back in and when i started it back up i check the timing and says its at 24 degrees now i know thats way to much but why was it fine when the spout was disconnected? its not pinging or anything the idle is a little high its like 950-1000 rpm if im not mistaking it should be at 900 with a 5 speed any ideas

Once the spouts back in the computer takes over.....your setting, spout out can't be seen...Sounds like its running fine so your good. You can tweak the idle down some if you like...900 would be fine to me...

when you set the timing with the distributor you are setting the BASE timing. The computer will add timing to that value as it sees fit to keep the engine running right. It adds timing as you accelerate to keep the ignition sequence in sync. With the spout connector in, the timing will bounce all over the place rather than stay at a specific setting. It's normal.
