From what i would gather, the only way for the computer to know that the car is being shifted, is by some kind of switch on the clutch right. I would further assume that the neutral safety switch, is the only switch that i know of that would have anything to do with shifting gears etc.. I know that my car won't start unless the clutch is disengaged, so i would assume that the computer takes some kind of reading from this sensor.

This is my theory, if you got rid of the neutral safety switch, wouldn't you get rid of the timing pull on shift. I am just wondering if i can get rid of this shift retard, by getting rid of the neutral safety switch, or is there another switch that would lead to this i don't know about.

Probably just a stupid idea, but you never know

Thanks for looking

what the computer does it watches the TPS....when it sees you going to WOT and let off the gas to shift and punch it again it takes away timing... a simple way around that is power shifting or set total timing and leave spout out when your at the track or if you have a tuner of some sort just turn that off...

ok i follow now, i guess i was thinking it accomplished the shift retard in some other way. Thanks man, i guess there is no way to really know then what it will do without it other than powershifting it

Sors, are you sure power shifting will get rid of it? I power shift my car often, and when i got a tweecer and turned that shift retard off, i felt a huge difference.

Im pretty sure someone on here had dataloged powershifting to determine that it still does pull timing. I could be wrong though..

I powershifted for the first time today with the new clutch and 3.73's Before I used to let off a little but this time the 2nd gear hit hard. Personally I thing sorscode is right. Ive never roasted the tires in second before.

I'm also pretty sure it's based on the TPS. More specificly, I want to say it's based on how quickly the TB closes, but I could be wrong on both accounts, so hopefully more will chime in.

The FRPP extender removes the tip in timing retard. When I put it on my Cobra, the tires would break loose when shifting to 3rd, never done that before. Can definitly feel the difference.

Sorry to steal the post, but what exactly does the RPM extender do?

The FRPP extender plugs in line to the computer. It has adjustments to move the rev limitor and adjust the air fuel ratio. It has different timing tables, closer to the AL9 computer, removes the tip in timing retart & eliminates the 93 mph fuel dump & retating of the timing. I have mine under the passenger side seat. Ford does not make them any more, so you have to find one used. I got mine on Ebay. They have to be modified to work on Cobras. Prices vary, I got mine for $175.00.

tip-in is when you roll onto the throttle, so I think it's reasonable to guess that the timing retard occurs as you roll onto the throttle. So power shifting at WOT isn't going to trip the timing retard.

ok, Five0tony, you say you run the car without the spout, so you just run total timing all the time. Right? What total timing do you run, i have considered doing this. Tell me more. Also if the car retards the timing when you roll back into it, why does it do so good when you stomp it in first gear?

Just a few more questions.

No spout?? Lol, some guys get away with the craziest things, but hey, if it works it works! A guy in the tweecer forum runs forced open loop all the time with no O2's.

I can't garuntee the Power Shifting deal but the spout out works.. because this way the computer can't pull timing... do to the fact it can't see where it is...

But it can't advance it at idle either, so you stil get a tradeoff. I opt for the all around torque.

The power shifting though, I don't think anyone should be doing it anyway! I don't like the idea of sacrificing the tranny to pull ahead by a small margin.
