I'm having an issue where I already have my timing set to 16 just to get my car to run OK, which is stupid. The big problem is though that my timing will not advance when my RPMs go up. At 2000 I'm still at 0, so now my spark is igniting when my exhaust valve is already open! I am using a MSD6AL Ignition with a MSD ProBillet Distributor and MSD Ignition Coil...... Any suggestions on what is causing the problem?

ok so update..... i set my timing to 36 just to see what it would do. well the timing is dropping to 16 at 2000 RPMs. Why would it be doing this?

Just to verify, you are pulling the SPOUT connector out Before you start the car, set the timing and lock down the dizzy, shut the car back off, pluf the SPOUT Back in, and then restarted the car and check the timing? Just makin sure, b/c if you pull the spout or plug it back in with the engine running, the computer won't recognize it being plugged in.

Assuming the SPOUT connector procedures are correct:

Do you have your ignition wired with a retard module or anything modifying the SPOUT signal? If so, it sounds like it's wired backwards.

yes i am pulling the spout connector before starting, adjusting timing, turning of reconnecting then running again. i had a shop do the wiring on the box so i can have a warranty since apparently to summit a military mechanics license is not good enough! I ran through it with a buddy of mine who went to a mustang specialist school and he says it all looks correct. He thinks there may be a possibility of the EFI not communicating properly

to add to this, I have had the box for a little over a year and it worked fine. I just recently rebuilt the engine though and this is what i came back to.

I'd bypass the box and see what it does.

If you get bored, test SPOUT voltage with a DMM while it idles with the SPOUT out. Then test again with the SPOUT in. The voltage should increase as timing increases, thus be higher when the SPOUT is in than out.

Bypassing the box did nothing, i still lose timing. I tested the Spout and it is fine as well....

The SPOUT voltage is the voltage running through the SPOUT circuit. You'd backprobe the SPOUT connector to see what it is. As I said, it increases as your timing advance increases.
