Tips for a white car

ive got a white 94gt and i was wondering what products would make it shine the most. I also have those swirl marks, but they can only be seen when the sun shines directly off of it, so its not too bad. ive got meguiars scratch-x but i havent used it yet. does anyone have any experience with this product? I dont have a buffer and dont really plan on buying one. What kind of cloth would be best for taking off/buffing wax/polish? something that i can just go out and buy at a store and not have to order online. thanks guys

Don't have any experience with the scratch X, so i can't comment on that. As for towels, get some microfiber (can pick em up just about anywhere). I'm hooked on menzerna products at the moment, but I've also been usin em with a porter cable random orbit buffer. Keep in mind, white isn't exactly a very gratifying color to polish/wax. I just spent and entire day claybarring, two stages of polish, and one stage of a wax on my expedition, and there just isn't the wow factor like on my cobra. check out www.autopia.org there are some extremely knowledgable people over there and more information than you'll ever know what to do with.

What I use on my white 95 gt is
wash-blue corral car wash
Claymagics or Mothers claybar
rewash
Klasse all-in-one <only ordered through the net.
Megs #16 again only through the net and hard to find (discountinued).

You should do
wash
clay
rewash
megs paint cleaner <should find locally
megs paint polisher<again locally
then top off with Megs #26.

A few people on autopia have told me that megs schrath X is pretty good to use by hand, and any "plush" microfiber towel should be used. Good luck

you should look into a random orbit polisher like the porter cable 7424 or 7336.
they are basically the same machine. i got the 7336 @ Lowes for 100 bucks. i then got a pad kit from sonus (www.autogeek.net) for like 50 bucks. in my opinion it is the best 150 ive ever spent. check out the forums at detailcity.com and autopia.com. i have a performance red 00 gt, light oxidation, minor scratches, scuffs and swirlmarks, water spots also. i attempted to fix these problems by hand, with alot of effort and good polishes. i did the following steps:
wash-clay-wash-dry-Menzerna final polish-Klasse all in one-wolfgang sealant
the results were ok, car looked alot better but most of the paint problems were still there. through reading the aformentioned forums i decided to drop the 150 and give it a shot. i followed the same steps and i saw IMMEDIATE 100% results after the polishing step using menzerna and a green pad. i was extremely impressed at how big of a difference the machine made. it just kept getting better after the klasse then wolfgang. read the forums on those sites. if you dont want to go that route, and want to do it by hand, scratch x is a good product, just follow with a good wax or sealant. if you want old school, Meguiars #16 is awesome (www.autogeek.net). hope this helps

That should read autopia.org not .com also YES megs#16 is freakin awesome I have 5 cans BUT autogeek.net no longer has any amazon.com still has some left I strongly suggest you pick up atleast 2 cans that's enough to last you years that's right years.

thanks wytstang for the correction of the website addy. sade, just remember when using waxes, go thin. you can do multiple layers (2 is about all is needed) but go thin.

also between weekly washings use some spray wax to keep off surface dust and dirt (especially during the spring/pollen season).
