I am putting a 289 inside a '67 coupe. It was originally a 6cyl. Just curious what size tires to run in the front and in the back. Any inpute is much appreciated!
currently i have 195/70/14s but they are all bald right now so im waitin till i can save up enough for some new tires. i will prolly go with a 205/70 14 or similar.
keep in mind that the bigger tire you got, the worse your speedo will be.
as a point of reference, I have an original F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval tire mounted on a stock rim that I have as a "spare" -- well, it's in the trunk anyway .... I too am looking at getting new tires, so just for kicks I measured the thing ... it measures 7.75 in in section width and 25.5 in overall diameter .... if you use one of the many tire size calculators, this equates out to a 197/74-14 (so much for a "70" profile) .... if one checks out tire retailers, such as Coker, they have a "replacement" tire that has advertised dimensions of 8.3 in section width and 26.5 in overall diameter .... I contacted Coker about their tire dimensions vs the dimensions I measured from an original .... interestingly enough, the good folks at Coker said that although they use original molds, they perform an additional "post-inflation" step on each tire as it comes off of the mold ... and apparently this extra process (not done in days of old) increases the tire dimensions slightly -- go figure .... so, bottom-line is that an old F70-14 is closest to an 7.75-14 in overall dimensions .... there are several web sites that show an F70-14 having the "newer" inflated dimensions (8.3 & 26.5) .... but it's hard to argue with an original (that still holds pressure BTW) .... hope this helps ....
