Question for you guys that know alot about tire sizes. My brother's girlfriend wants to buy him a set of slicks for graduation, she doesn't want to let him know about it; so unlike natural I can't ask him. He is always talking about Micky Thompson ET Streets (26x11.5x17). He has 18's right now, his black bullitts, he still has his old stock wheels. Thats what he wants to put the slicks on, the tire sizes from the old tires on the stock wheels are 245/45ZR17. (Thats what it says) Will those ET Streets fit on his old wheel?

How wide are the wheels? I want to say 17x8, because of the 245/45 tire.

On Mickey T's website, it says, and I do quote:

"Acceptable practice for rim width is tread width plus or minus 1 inch. All dimensions @ 10 psi cold on measuring rim."

With this being said, the 26x11.5x17 ET Street tire has a tread width of 9.5 inches. If the wheel is only 17x8, which I think it is, the tires will not be within the "acceptable" range.

What are the side effects of this? A BIG sway at high speeds. The ass of the car will dance like you would not believe.

Will they fit? I'm almost certain that they would. It would be a tight squeeze though. There are a few things to consider here. A 17" drag radial will not work nearly as well as a 15" DR, so performance would will be compromised.

If it were me, I'd buy a set of 15" wheels and a set of "matched" 15" ET streets.

Unfortunately money is tight. Thanks for the response. I think 45 is the width in millimeters, someone good at math here?

245 is the tread width in millimeters. 1 inch is 25.4mm. xxx/45 is the aspect ratio(%). So 45% of 245mm is 110.25mm which is 4.34 inches. Take that x2 and that gets you 8.68 inches. Now add that to the rim diameter (17") and you get 25.68 inches for the overall diameter. 245mm treadwidth equates to 9.65inches. Mickey Thompson makes a 26x10.5R17 ET street tire that will fit you brother's 17x8 Bullitt wheels. There ya go.

He has his alloy wheels from ford that are the 17's. His bullitts are 18's. So it will fit his old 17'' alloy wheels. Can you find me a link to buy a set?

can you get anyone else to chip in on the gift with her? i looked at some of the tire options and in my opinion i would either get slicks for 15s and a pair of 15s (stealy 15s are only like 30 a piece) or i wouldnt do the slicks at all and do something else. the 17s would have less sidewall to wrinkle and would also be trying to sling more wieght around in a circle.

i did look for ya though. MT ofcourse wont sell them right off their site, summit didnt have 17s and i cant find a dang thing on that allmustang.com either

I know summitt sells them as a friend of mine bought them for his 95 cobr r wheels. I know Troy (redsnk) has the 17" ET streets on his stock 17X8 cobra wheels, send him a PM or email and see what size he is running. If you a search on the corral for his name I know you will find it as he had a post about running 10's on them not too long ago.

Thanks guys.... well my brothers girlfriend broke the news to him. He said they would fit and do just fine on them. FYI: summit does sell them $179 a tire I believe....


also with some of the graduation money he got... hes buying a nitrous kit.

Tire Choices

What tires should I buy. Well its time to buy tires for my car. I want a good tire that isnt that expensive that hooks good and also last for a good amount of time. I dont know what to buy drag radials or street tires. I am going to be getting a 100 shot of Nitrous and I want to be able to hook. Which tires would fit my application. I'm looking to spend under $125-150 a tire. Thanks.

I like the Kumho Ecsta MX tires. Don't have 'em myself but 5.0 Mustang & SF magazine did an article on them not too long ago and they performed really well against the BFG Comp T/A KDWs'. They fall into your price range.

He went ahead and bought some wheel/tire package (15") for $50 and did a massive burnout for the end of school. Now hes gonna buy the 15" tires. Thanks.
