Tire wear strips.

Good afternoon, folks.
I just noticed the wear strips peeking through on my rear tires today. Normally that would mean, hey ass, get tires, but I'm ordering a new Mustang Sunday....think I could make it 6-8 weeks on my 30 mile commute with these things? I could just get some el cheapo tires back there...what say you?

If the wear bars are just showing, you're still good for a bit yet. Probably the biggest thing to be wary of is rain and standing water on the road. With little tread depth aquaplaning can set in very fast and you can find yourself backwards and upside down before you can say "oh s&*^"...

In some ways the backs are even more important. If you're cruising down the highway and hit a patch of standing water, the rears may start spinning and cause the car to swap ends.

Just watch for water and drive accordingly

What are you doing with the car after getting the new stang? Sure, if you are trading in, it doesn't matter. If you are selling it yourself, I would have to imagine that bald rear tires will put off a lot of buyers and you won't get as much money. So throwing some cheap tires on would be worth it. If you are keeping the car for winter/rain driving, then you'll want to buy tires eventually anyway.

Well I'm trading the car in for the new stang that's why I don't want to put new tires back there but I just noticed the cords are showing through on the right rear so I don't think driving 6-8 weeks on that would be prudent...would it?

I drive mine until I start to see wire, lol.

When they get bad enough I start checking them a couple of times a week and when I see the first sign of steel peeking through then I leave it parked and drive something else. I get my money's worth out of tires.
I know some of you will call me unsafe, but whatever, I don't care.

I have a set of F1 GS-D3s and the wear indicator is in the grooves. Mine are still fine but getting close BUT I had a toe-in problem last year and when I switched to snow tires I noticed one of my front summer tires is feathered on the inside and steel braid is showing... Sucks, I have 3 good summer tires and 1 bad that I won't use. I'm looking at mixing and matching cause I am broke as hell these days...

I hate buying tires. Just bought new back tires for my 04, now I need front ones. I need 4 new tires for my truck, well I really need 1 but the other 3 are old used tires. I need to front tires for my 68. Oddly enough the drag radials on back still have some miles left.

Some advise that is good to bare in mind when buying Mustang Tires is looking closely at the UTQG/Treadwear rating. If the tire has a lower number it will not get very good tread life but if this number is lets say 300+ it should for all intensive purposes get 30+ thousand unless you drive the hell out of it lol. My simple 2 cents.

Plus 10. Front tires are a must to have some tread. If you cant steer, you might as well park the car. When the rears get bald, just ease on the take off and your fine, even in the rain.
Hydroplaning sucks, makes your butt cheeks suck up some of that ill-produced leather the New-Edges have.

Just make sure you have a properly aligned car, especially after lowering it. This is what I just had to replace, because I cheaped out after the drop and didn't get camber plates.

My back tires aren't looking so great either.

I just replaced my fronts and am on the hunt for a nice drag radial in 335/35/17.

Big time. The same tire, BFG G-Sport, is about $20 more than it was 25k miles ago.
