I'm getting tired of having to drain my rad before I go to the track, then having to add the antifreeze back in when I get home. Is there any other alternatives out there - other than don't race. I would leave the water in it all summer however I have been told this is not a good idea as I have aluminum heads ? Any ideas are always appreciated. Thanks.

They only alow you to run water? What a bunch of BS. I understand on a oval track, but on a drag strip, WTF? Do they alow you to run oil in the engine? (sarcasam there)

Aluminun doesn't rust, so I would worry about that part. The Iron block I would worry about. I have heard of people running distilled water and a couple bottles of redline Water Wetter because it helps keep the engine cool and prevents corrosion.

I would not run only distilled water in my engine. Distilled water has an affinity for ions. Essentially, it wants to form coilloid groups by stripping ions out of the surface it contacts (your coolant passages).

I work with ion exchange water treatment systems and the only materials designed for use are SS316, titanium and other super alloys.

Probably wouldn't hurt for short term use, but I would not risk it.

ID, since you are here and this would pertain to 91 five 0......what do you think of using a sacrificial plug that would deteriorate rather than various coolin system components? i know there are such products, but cant think of what they are called (sacrificial anode came to mind). any thoughts, Herr Meister?
