Hey guys, I just picked up a 85 GT, all stock. It needs new tires and Im wondering what would fit. I know the stock wheels are 15x7 and it came originally with 225/60's. I was thinking of keeping 225/60's front and running 245/60's rear. Will the 245's fit no problem??

They should fit no problem. 245 is about as wide as I would go on a 7" wide rim. What kind of tires are you thinking about, the selection is pretty slim for us

(I have the same rim size) I choose Bridgestone Potenza G009's:

I'll probly just go with some BFG Radial T/A's or maybe Dunlop GT Quaifiers.

A lot of people are using 245 tires on their 7" rims. I have them at all four corners. When I get new front tires though, I think I am going to go to the factory 225 width. The 245 bow out a little more than I would like. They are fine on the back, but I think my car would handle a little better with the 225 in front.

+1 for that... 225/60/R15 was and still is the correct size tires for the early (up to 1991) Mustang.

Remember, that a 16" tire back 20 years ago cost between $200 - $300 dollars depending on what you wanted. I remember my dad buying tires for his 1990 GT in the 15" size and each "good-for-a-years" was $150.00 dollars.

As for the comment about 245's on all four corners.... They will fit like mentioned but they really make the car mushy in the corners. This car is already mushy around corners. I had a 93 GT with Pony rims and 245's on all four corners - I hated it. Not saying you can't do it. I just didn't like it.

Couldn't agree with you any more. Plus, they make the front suspension move the car all over the road on a surface that is not level.
