I have searched and researched this and still dont really have the answers I am looking for. So please help, ecspecially if you have experienced this and been through the headache I am tryin to prevent. I am setting up a Fox GT with the 8.8 rearend with a nice set of gears and a transmission swap. Going with the TKO 600 with the 2.87 first gear. Running 275/50/15 MT ET streets. WHAT RING AND PINION SHOULD I GO WITH??? Planning to also go with a posi, probably Eaton 31 spline and Superior axles 31 spline (what do you think about this choice of axles and diff, good, bad) Do you think this is a hooking setup, or is there better? Anything else I am leaving our or should do different? I just want a setup that will hit hard and launch like a son of b#@%*!!!!!!!!! Any help at all please!!!

Plan to run somewhere between 500-600 horses in the near future, so keep this in mind. I need the toughest I can get....

I have not bought one yet, trying to figure out which one. And the car will make runs at the strip, but will be a street car, running hard on the street. I want it to be the meanest street car as possible and just probably 2 visits per year at the strip. I want it to be a strip looking/running car but still keep it streetable, if that makes sense. Also any other upgrades you know I could do to achieve this.......like suspension and things.

i would go 4.10's so that you can use 6th and then your 1st will be like a 3.35 first gear with 3.73's.

He's not referring to a T-56. TKO 600's are 5-speed.

I'm also trying to figure out the optimal final drive ratio with a 600. I have 3.55 gears and wonder if they're aren tall enough for the 2.87 first. I might just get a worked 500 that can handle 750 ft lbs.

RacEoHolic330, let me know what you find out if you do. I would like to stay with the 600, I think it would be cheaper in the long run to not have to modify a 500. Can anyone tell me if 373s are gonna be too high because that is what I was thinking about going with.......Maybe 410s.

my mistake. i still stand by my 4.10 though. i have a world class t-5 and with its 3.35 first gear i think my 3.73 are perfect. maybe not for daily driving but definetally at the track they are. so if your first gear is less then mine i would say to get the same launch 4.10's would do it. mind you if you are going to build a 500-600 hp car your engine with 3.08's would probably eat mine at a stop light.

I find this to bee a good rule of thumb to find a gear to start with (if you really want to get serious tune from here, this also asumes everthing in your combo is matched properly)

get a rear gear that puts you through the lights at the 1/4mile at the rpm you make max power at in your 1:1 trans gear

use an online calc (alot easyer than doing everthing by had) you know your tire size, trap speed, so finding the gear is easy.

I have a TKO600 with 3.73s and I think it's a good combo for the street. 1st is not too squirrley with all the rain here in OR, but I can't really use 5th unless I'm going at least 60mph which is sometimes tough with the lower speed limits in the Portland area. 60mph with TKO600 & 3.73 = about 2,000 RPM.

I installed the 3.73s when I was running a T5, but if I were to do gears now I'd probably go with 4.10s.

I have the .054 5th gear i think it is, with my 373's, today I was on the parkway 70mph at 2,000rpm and 80mph at 2,300-2350rpm. Its a stock t-5 besides a rebuild and also supposedly have a 2.95 1st gear, but cant verify that. But I know I hate the over overdrive 5th gear. I try to do the limit 65-70mph and in 5th gear im at 2,00rpm and the motor is OK but as soon as theres anytype of incline the motor lugs so i got to get on it(talk about lugging the motor and no power at all :nonono: ) or downshift to 4th which will go to like 3400 rpms  Theres no happy medium for me...either cruise 65mph in 4th at like 2900rpms or like 1900rpms in 5th gear...Prob would work good if i had lower gears like 4.10s...

Shouldnt ur gear selection also depend on what ur aiming to put on? If youre going supercharger I would go with 3.55 or 373s but def. no steeper than 373s. I think some cams are built around the gears you have also, not sure about that though.

Is there a specific setup or set of gears in the rear that they call for on the TKO 600? Has anyone ever called any kind of tech support on the TKO? What did they say? Who has a TKO with 373 or 410, how does it run?
