In the process of buying a TKX transmission and am not sure on what gear ration to go with. What I do know is my stock world class T-5 (1992) seems pretty good in 1st and 2nd, but 3rd is a bit of a gap. Currently looking at the TCET1805 so the most peppy 1st - 3rd acceleration.

What gear ratio would you guys suggest?

I recently purchased the 17765 as I wanted the higher od ratio... I have not installed it yet so I cannot actually say how it is.. When I was looking to buy, it was the model usually out of stock, so it seems as it was very popular..
Replaced a SROD transmission that has a 4th gear ratio of .70 using what I believe is a 3.08 rear end gearing.. I am installing a new 3:50 rear gear
Most people did not like the high, 3.27 first gear, who had them....at least thats what most who post say...
The 10 spline, 18086, will fit your clutch disc, if you want to keep your existing clutch.. Be advised that the 10 spline input shaft has a smaller diameter which computes to less strength, but I don't think that will affect 95% of users.....
Your T5 bellhousing will NOT work with a TKX....

I would go with the 17765 unless you plan on running stock 3.08 or 2.73 gears. The 17765 with a 3.73 rear gear would be perfect for a street car.

I have everything picked out from LMR and all the required components to make the TKX work. I plan on replacing the clutch and doing it right with a 26 spline input shaft.

Is this the stock gear ratio for a 1992 T5?

3.351.931.261.000.68

Wouldn't first gear in the stock T5 be tighter or give less top speed then the TKX 3.27 1st? I just want to make sure that I'm thinking about this correctly. I do take it to the track and run it in the 1/4 miles from time to time but am more of a weekend warrior. ;)

A 3.35 or 3.27 first gear would be easier to get car rolling with ( which is what first gear is actually for) but you would be shifting quicker into second...

LOTS of very knowledgable people on here about T5's, They should be on here eventually

The difference between the two first gears (stock 3.35 and TKX 3.27) would be 75 rpms at 30 mph with a 3.73 rear gear. I bet you would never tell the difference.

I currently like the gear ratio of the stock T5 for 1st and 2nd, but 3rd is a bit of a jump in my opinion. I think I'm leaning towards the TCET18085 with 3.27 first.

Oh, current rear end gears are 3.73. Racing down the track I am almost at the top of 4th in the 1/4 miles, but regardless 4th is 1 to 1 on all.

I'm using the 2.87 first/.68 od close ratio with a 4.10 gear, works really well together so far (no track time yet). I had a tko with a 3.27 first with the old 302 and the 1-2 shift came around really fast, figured id avoid that this time.

Btw if you didn't already know, these are all the same ratios that the too 500/600 came with so you can search for those if want opinions with some more seat time behind them.

You can cross the first two off the list.
I see no reason to buy a trans with a 10 spline input shaft and a .81 5th gear with 3.73's is probably going to turn alot of rpm on the highway.

On the second two, the 2.87 would be good for a car that makes alot of power down low.
It's the ratio i currently run with 3.73's. But my car makes a serious amount of low end.

You don't say your combination of parts, but i personally would be inclined to use the 3.27 on a NA or low power setup.

With a supercharger or turbo i'd most likely suggest the 2.87.

The main difference between the two is how long or short first gear is. Forget about whatever you are thinking about third gear, in that case you get what you get.

Thanks for your input!

I think you’re 100% right on the first two.
Currently Running a 347 stroker making 350 hp and 400 foot pounds of torque. Not sure if I will ever upgrade the engine to anything more serious, so they are what they are.

My mind is made up to go with the 3.27 first, and if something changes down the road then I can always swap her out.

If you were to make changes in the future, most likely the easier route would be to just swap the rear gears instead.
Before i went to a terminator setup, i was considering going to 4.10's, because i didn't like the long first gear.
Now i'd say it's just right.
You are making the right decision with the 3.27 first gear
