when i got to hertz at logan airport in boston this morning (5am) i was told that since i didnt fly in I couldnt rent the car. i've had the car reserved for over a week now...and was NEVER told that i needed to fly in --- or have a flight itinerary---in order to get the car. when i made the reservation, the hertz rep asked me if i was flying in..i said no, i lived in boston (i'm a gold club member too..so they have my address and know that i live all of 15 mins from the logan airport hertz)...anyway, i told the rep that i wasnt flying in and she never said that i would have any problems...so this morning while i was at the boston hertz i called the hertz 800# and was told that the "no walk in policy" for the gt-h was enacted THE SAME DAY I MADE THE RESERVATION...and i never received a phone call to tell me this....so after waiting there until 6:30 for the manager to get there, having him tell me that i couldn't get the car....i'm home now...no gt-h. btw, they had at least 3 there that i saw, and the kid behind the counter said they had 5....

so why....can anyone tell me....can someone who flies in from wherever, has no idea what the gt-h even is....why can they rent the car?? but i, just because i didnt fly to the rental agency...i can't rent the car even though the car actually means something to me....

i know that to hertz they are just cars...and to the people behind the counter they aren't even that....but c'mon, that is the dumbest rule i have ever heard. i wonder if carroll shelby knows that his loyal fans are being kept from enjoying his cars.

sorry for the long post...i'm just pissed.

That's an easy fix...just "edit" and old pc printed boarding pass on your puter, that should work?

Seems pretty logical to me... they don't want a repeat of the "rent a racer" problem they had the first time they did this.

Even if that isn't what you had planned, you have to admit, the chances of someone flying in and renting the GTH *just* to go racing (or just to take it out and beat the crap out of it) are a lot less than someone local doing the same thing.

i work for enterprise-rent-a-car, its actually pretty standard policy to only allow ppl flying to rent from airport locations. there are neighborhood offices for everyone else. the reasoning is to keep up with the high demand for flying customers.

Thats not right at all, could even sound like discrimination. There are other tactics to achieve your goal like fly2k said.
At 2 hundred bills a day they can keep it in there garage imo.

One more day until I get that Shelby for a few days. Hertz better not try and pull some krap out of the bag. It looks like everything is good to go though. I called Tuesday to make sure I don't have to fly into SF airport the operator told me no. They do require a 3rd form of ID when renting this car though it can be a flight ticket or even a utility bill, credit card. FYI I asked her when they plan on selling the gt350h she said that some dealers will get them when the cars have about 15,000-18,000 miles on them.

Yep, I learned the same thing about the flight rule. Luckily the guy told me that requirment, so when I rent mine for a week on the 12th to go to the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup in Steamboat Springs Colorado, I used some of my flight miles and got a free ticket into Denver and then back out the day which I'm returning it. One week and two days. I can't wait.

Shelby GTH review

The car was rented Thursday 6/1 and returned yesterday. I wasted 135.00 for a 2 day rental my 2005 stang seemed stronger to me than the Shelby. It sounded nice and the looks are bad a**. But to anyone with the same mods or better just keep your money. The price now is 174.00 for 1 day. It is a ripoff. I got the car for $ 53 dollars and change. I reserved the car at the end of April before the price was bumped up.
I almost did not get the car because I did not have an airline ticket but I had my confirmation # printout so that is what saved me. The hertz city manager had to get involved and he gave the greenlight. I am gonna get the handling pack that comes on the car. That was my favorite thing about the Shelby everything else was cool but if you got the same model keep your cheese. I also think the grill was a little to bling bling it looks good in pictures but up close and in person it looks cheap. Not as good as the regular foglights.

Yes I did get a couple photos on my cell. We went straight to Monterey Thurs and part of Fri the bad part about it is my camera was at home. The car was due back yesterday at noon. So it was pretty much a race and return. I am still trying to get more pictures of my own car up. Time was pretty pressing during the 2 days.

It's mandatory

I did have to show my flight info in Cleveland when I got one.

I've also noticed the prices are different in other airports

Hertz Mustang

Big deal, as I understand it- the Hertz Mustang is just a GT with different mufflers, a tune and some stripes. Also, they're all automatics.

+1,000,000 That's the EXACT reason why they do this.
