I'm going to be installing the flame kit from gotflames.net this weekend, and I was just wondering if anyone who has installed this kit before has any tips or tricks that I might have to do in order to make it work on a mustang

Never installed one, but man those look fun! After you get them installed you should post some pics.

I don't know how they would work on a Fuel Injected Vehicle???

Fom my understanding you need to hook up a coil by your exhaust and weld some bungs into your pipes to fit spark plugs.

You rev it to 3000rpm then press a button. The button cuts spark to your engine and gives it to the coil out back. Your engine stops burning fuel and dumps it out the exhaust to get ignites by your sparkplug/coil setup out back..

There are two problems I see with this..

1) Your cats are going to get red hot catalyzing all the unburt fuel from your engine. Eventually you'll ruin them. So you have to cut the cats off..

2) I don't know how you would get a FI vehicle to cut out and dump that much fuel into the exhaust..

Maybe I'm way off base, but that's what I understand..

Q: Will the "Got Flames?" kit work on E.F.I. (electronic fuel injection) cars, trucks, or motorcycles ?
A: Yes and no. It will work on almost any E.F.I. car, truck, or motorcycle without a catalytic converter provided it does not have 4 or 6 cylinder engine ( motorcycles are exempt from this, but still can't have a catalytic converter). Cars or trucks with E.F.I. need to have an 8 cylinder engine or bigger to shoot flames. If you have an E.F.I. 4 or 6 cylinder engine with a turbo, N.O.S. , or major engine horsepower modifications the kit will work. If your car will not shoot flames using this basic kit you can still have some options ( see Mega Got Flames kit/plans on the Flame Kits page). Catalytic converters burn off gasses the motor doesn't burn therefore there is nothing to burn at the end of the tailpipes. You can remove the catalytic converter if you have one, but I do not recommend this as there are laws in every state that require you to have a properly working catalytic converter on your vehicle. There are fines for not meeting these laws.

I have a o/r pipe so the cats are gone. I guess if I'm not happy with the flame I get, I'll get a t/a and advance my timing like the old hot rods did it.

go for it. i think it would look awsome. It should def get some respect on the streets, i wouldnt doubt it if ppl would be affraid to run you because of them.
Thats why mine wont ever shoot flames..i like sneaking up on my victims.

On my friends 88 dakota i wired a kit up by myself. No instructions or anything. Custom tuned by Andy lol

Mounted a std 12v coil near the tailpipe
Tapped a hole in the exhaust tip for a spark plug
connected a plug wire to the coil and plug
ran speaker wire from the coil to a switch
grounded one end of the speaker wire
and ran the negative to the switch and to the + on the factory coil
Right before the coil - after the connection for + on the switched wire, I cut the wire and attached wire to it and ran it to a switch, to be able to shut the coil off and dump gas in

Works like a charm

I could draw up instructions if anyone wants. It would have to be for something with a distributor though. Dunno about our DIS ignitions

Be interesting to see what your local ricers think...they'll probably be surprised that this 1) works on a V8 rwd car and 2) was in fact NOT invented by the "Fast and the Furious"...

Stupid Ricers (©) probably won't like it because in Fast and Furious the flames were the same color as the car.. And his will "only" be blue or yellow..
