To buy or not to buy... not the average question.

Whats going on guys... I pretty much figured id end up over here when I got my Mustang, but I ended up with a 4.6 instead. Im happy with it though, BUT... I still LOVE 5.0 Mustangs.

Heres whats bugging me now...

A few weeks ago I saw a Mustang get in a wreck. A REALLY clean 95 GT, blue... amazingly nice. From what I could tell at the time the front end needs to be replaced. Hood, bumper cover, fenders...

So I didnt think a thing about it except its a shame that it was wrecked. I watched it start and drive for a short distance after the wreck, so it does run.

So today... im driving down the road coming back from a short trip and I happen to glance off to a body/wrecker service shop and notice the car sitting out front for sale, 2k obo.

IF the frame is still straight do you guys think its worth buying a fixing? Id only be interested if the car is a 5 speed (I love manuals in anything with power). Basically I figure if its straight, its gonna need a hood (Cobra R...) bumper cover (Cobra R...) and fenders.

If I do the work then its just the price of parts plus paint (which could wait depending what I would do with the car).

I dunno, its just an idea im throwing around. Its really appealing because I was first SET on a 94/95 5.0 Mustang. Plus id hate to see it go to the crusher...

What do you guys think?

I guess you would have to see closer the true damage (like you mentioned, the frame), mileage of the car etc. My friend was just in an accident last week with his supercoupe and had the same type of damage, both fenders, hood, front clip, everything to the radiator needed to be replaced. He took it around (it was still driveable as well) and got pure labor estimates of about $1,500. If things looked good, it was a 5 speed with decent mileage and you have the extra cash to pick it up and fix it, do so.

Yeah, if the frame is straight and you can do the work yourself its a great deal probably. But offer $1500, see if they will take it. Just look it over good to see if it is worth the time.

Yeah if its straight I would consider it. Dont want to pick something up thats tweaked.

I really dont have extra money to spend on it, but I for some reason always wanted to start on a project like this... and I happen to really like that year Mustang... so I guess I should make a call and see whats what on it.

Not like id be in a rush to finish it if I bought it, just take my time, do my own work, and make sure it was done right.

One thing I might consider. If it was that clean (we're sure it was) the owner had to take pride in it. If it wouldnt cost much to fix up, you'd think he'd want to hang on to it. There are a lot of reasons why he wouldnt keep it, but as enthusiasts, that's how we think.

I guess I'm just saying to do as others said and really look it over super hard. Consider things like: if it needs a retitle, will you need to have air bags and all that (which adds to the cost of a fix-up).

Fixer uppers are great, but the old mantra of buying the nicest example you can find is often true. You just dont recoupe money refurbishing a car that otherwise doesnt cost a lot to buy.

Ive had some time to think about it, and I really dont need it right now. If I didnt have my Mustang allready I would s natch it up in a heartbeat, but thats not the case... Sooooo, hopefully someone will buy it and fix it up, cause it was a nice car. Id hate to see it get crushed.

Dont have the money to buy it, and fix it soon-ish. Between my Jeep and the Mustang reliability isnt the best in the world, so I dont think its a good idea to buy something thats allready broken aswell, lol.
