To Pin or not to Pin? Need your help guys!!

I just got a Cobra R svo hood, and i know i should really consider putting hood pins on it. Im really undecided to whether they would look good on my car or not. I just dont wanna realize i dont like it after i have 2 holes in my hood. Im looking at the hoods pins with the wires attached to them. "like the ones on Eleanor". Whadda you guys think? help me make up my mind

Definetly get the pins... for safety anyways.. besides, they look badass!

Well you could get the hood pins and not have to worry about the hood ever flying up and destroying the cowl, widnshield and roof; or you could forget about them and risk doing about 3000.00 worth of damage to your Stang.

ya re-production hoods dont have to much of a reputation for staying closed. had pins on my 87lx they looked bad ass deff gonna do it again in the future.

Pins are definitely a good idea. Better to keep the hood closed, while driving.

Definitely get pins for safety. I would avoid the pins that have wires connected to the actual pin part(the wire that attaches to the pin and holds it when you pull the pin out). I had the wired version on my '67 and after a year or two it really started to mess up the paint from whipping around at higher speeds. So yes on the hood pins, no on the wires.

If you want to get some that do not look so damn ugly Summit racing sell some that I have installed that are a lock and key setup. You will not have those ugly"R\C 10" pin's and yes they do work, if you use the factory latch and safety latch you will be fine to begin with but if you plan on doing well over 80 mph do not be a fool because your hood eventually will give the fiberglass that is, I had a glass hood fly up on me one time at about 60 mph and I had 3000 dollars worth of damage, Hood,Cowl,sunroof,windshield,roof cowl cover,wiper motor setup, etc. not a fun time.......Stock hood 600$ from the blue oval,Cervinis 550 ram hood with ram kit Look's real nice......I was real relucted to drilling two holes into my hood but after seeing what I went through It did not take long to decide. I agree that the ones with the wire's are kinda of cheesy but safety is with out of doubt important, so I bought the ones that have a lock and key looks like a coke machine lock THESE WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU USE THE FACTORY LATCHES THESE ARE ONLY A REINFORCEMENT MEASURE! Besides that they look good and they will protect your investment under the hood. You install them in place of your hood bumper support's on the front side of the car you will not have to do any drilling,,,,,,just measure twice before you drill.

Actually the ones with locks are supposed to be just that - - LOCKS. If you go to the Mr. Gasket Site or call them ,they will tell you that they are not hood pins for safety, they are hood locks to keep people from stealing things from under the hood. I would not feel safe with those on my hood. They also collect water and after some time begin to rust and will not open.

I tried to put a set of those Mr. Gasket locking pins on my new hood, I could not make them work for the life of me. Tossed them in the trash and got the regular style.

that's cool dude, i respect your opinion...kinda wondering how they look cheap though? I too think they look BAD ASS and I haven't looked a whole lot, but I think I like both - wires and non wires, but I don't think i'd want my paint getting messed up from it.

I have pins for two reasons. For one, the hole for the bolt that holds the secondary latch to the underside of the hood is stripped out, so I have no safety latch. Also I think they look very racey and hardcore.
One day I was going down the highway and looked at my hood and thought "the hood seems to be bouncing around a little more than usual". I pulled over and checked it and sure enough, the main latch had come loose and the only thing holding the hood down was the pins. Man, was I thankful that I had installed them.
I've heard many horror stories about hoods flying up and the most common damage is the hood, the windshield, the A-pillars, the roof, and the cowl panel that the plastic cowl grill mounts to. Not to mention the risk of crashing your car. That cowl panel is a real project to replace too. You have to remove the windshield, fenders, and many of the engine components that are attached to the firewall... then the old one has to be cut out and a new one has to be welded in. It's a HUGE task. Not to mention that noone makes a replacement for that piece, so you pretty much have to go junk-yarding and hope to get lucky and find a good one.

i agree i don't like them either looks like you went for the 150 hood rather than a quality one.
