Anyway, I seemed to be able to drive in either state! Rain, snow...just freaking slow down, on the other hand, sun, more sun; drop the top and cruise the chit out of the hwy!I miss you peeps! keep it real

The car that is going the fastest does not set the pace for traffic.

If everyone is cruising along at 70, and there is a car going 65. of course the cars that are going with the flow of traffic will have to pass. So the ass who is going 85 and cannot stand having to slow down. So he passes on the right.

So, the right lane is for passing slower traffic. Not for some ass hat who does not know how to read a speedometer and goes over the speed limit.

Well I guess 99.99% percent of the drivers here must be from out of state then , because except for a small group and I mean a very small group they cant drive for chit.They need to have bumper stickers so they can be idenified like proud to be from oregon just cant drive

The way I see it, if the following conditions apply...

A) You are "going with the flow of traffic"
B) There is enough room in the right lane for someone to use it as a passing lane
C) You're not in the right lane

Then something is wrong. The left lane is for passing. If you are not passing someone, you ought to be in the right lane. I see people on the highway all the time who think that once they reach the posted limit, they have earned the right to cruise in the lane of their choice.

My other pet peeve is the asshats who cruise in the left lane because it stresses them out to have to deal with merging traffic from the on-ramps.

And the people who think that if one single car comes down the onramp, they should switch to the left lane to give them room ... even if they're going 10 mph slower than the left lane is. Oregonians are so brain dead when it comes to merging.

And don't get me started on the morons who, in the middle of stop & go traffic, cut across the painted triangle of an on-ramp to merge early, and then refuse to let people merge who decided to use the on-ramp as designed.

Or how about the folks who decided they just have to be in the left lane, because the left lane is always faster ... except that it's stopped, and they sit there wedged across both lanes while a mile-long gap in traffic opens up in front of them in the right lane...

There are so very many stupid people on the road around here, it's beyond amazing. I just laugh about it now, most of the time, because I don't want the heart attack that comes from stressing out about it. And I find alternate routes that have lots of twisties. Thankfully the lemmings aren't willing to drive a few minutes away from the highway to save time, so the back roads are almost always pretty clear.

Dave thats actually what I do also ,is just laugh it off. Lifes to short to be agro all the time and fall into the road rage lane.I must admit I do strey from the path once in a while though

I admit that I get pissed from time to time. I usually just call them names (unless there are kids in the car) and leave it at that. I dont do the flip off/horn yell out the window thing much, and I dont go and cut people off or tailgate them. But I do get angry.

The reason is, because if people just realized if they drove passively, at or near the speed limit, and didnt mess around, they'd have a lot more time for themselves. Time is very valuable to me. I work 16-18 hours a day, and I get to relax maybe an hour a day if I'm lucky, and if I have to go anywhere outside of town, I spend that hour behind these morons who are trying so hard to get where they are going they end up causing traffic problems. If they followed a few simple rules, we'd have no issues with transportation.

This is one of the primary reasons I dont like going to AFP, because every time I've planned a trip up there, a drive that theoretically should take 45 minutes, always takes an hour and half at least (just to get there. Not including going back!), and I am usually not able to get off work that long. No matter what time of day, I end up spending a large portion of the time doing the stop and go thing at 35mph on I-5 going thru north portland. It sucks.

So, the right lane is for passing slower traffic. Not for some ass hat who does not know how to read a speedometer and goes over the speed limit.

I'd be happy to see people going anywhere near the speed limit here in portland. The speed limit is 55-65 on most of the freeways, and the only time you ever see that, is 3am when few people are on the freeway.

But this is the beauty of our country, as individuals we have the freedom to choose to obey the speed limit or not. So I guess if the label of ass hat fit for using my freedom in this way then I'm proud to be an Ass Hat. How about King Ass Hat?

i drove from portland to tillamook and back today. This morning the drive was terrible, it was raining so hard. That road might be fun if it was dry but there were puddles everywhere, i cant count how many times i hydroplaned. Only saw one accident, on the way back there was a boat, trailer was in two and another truck with its front end smashed

what do you guy's consider enough room to pass on the right? one car length? two?

If you cannot see someone in your rear view mirror when you change lanes, then you are to close.
that is usually enough distance for the person you just passed to have time to react and not rear end you if there was a need to brake.

For some reason You guy's think that I mean cruising in the left lane for miles.

It is the ding dongs who ride yoru ass as you pass someone, then as soon as you clear the slow moving car, they pass on the right before there is a chance to move over.

and the rational that Its your freedom to obey the speed limit is a bit asanine. I guess with that rational I could kill someone. Since I am free to do that. Its only illegal when you get caught right?

anyways, right passing me in the situation that I have described. Gets my blood boiling. almost as bad as tailgaiters.

Apparently I was misunderstanding your point of view from before. In the scenario described above I too would become tweaked by that. I try to wait until I can see the entire front of the car I am passing.

Well half right. Yes you could kill someone that is a choice you make. But no as we all know unless you have been ordered to or you life feels threatened lethal force is not acceptable in this culture. Laws are there to shape, guide our society and can be interpreted in many ways, you see it one way and I view it differently.

What's not rational is comparing a class C traffic violation to a class A felony.

My number 1 rule of the road, "Don't make YOUR maneuver MY maneuver, and I won't make MY maneuver YOUR maneuver." In other words, if everybody was as aware of how their driving effected other drivers, then we'd have less traffic problems like:
Drivers changing lanes indescriminately
Drivers staying in the left lane and not passing when others are behind them wanting to pass (I call these people traffic Nazis).
Drivers waiting until the last minute to do just about anything instead of planning a little and being where they need to be in advance instead of cutting others off to be there.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth..... I feel better now.....

Ya know what sucks, is ya get on the freeway, ya set the cruise at 5 over, and there are the people who pass ya here, then like half a mile later youre having to change lanes to pass them, then a little later they pass you again....
FIGURE OUT WHAT F_ING SPEED YOU WANT TO DRIVE AND STAY THERE!!!!!!

Then there are the ones who want to do 75 on the straitaways, then you get to an interchange and they slow down to like 40 for the freaking cloverleaf... WTF.
If you cant drive the damn thing, then stay home.... I mean if my stock 4wd ranger can go from 205S to 14E with the cruise set at 60, then by God any halfway decent sedan and for sure every coupe should be able to do the same.
:damnit:

And then there are the people who tailgate you, and once you move over they pass...and cut in front of you and then take the next exit.... WTF Like youre in a GREAT BIG hurry to go NOWHERE.

Americans don't pay attention when driving and our driving culture lacks discipline. That assessment is conventional wisdom by Europeans in reference to us, and after living there, I must agree. Moreover, we have the same highway infrastructure we built in the 50's-60's, but now we have nearly twice the population. Those are not good numbers. The only solution is a radical one: live close to work.

I spent 3 years in the UK. They were the absolute worst drivers. I drove all over that country and I was honestly more comfortable driving through rush hour in LA than I was there.

All the other european countries I visited all drove like crap. But it was all bigger cities that I went to and the only driving I expierenced was as a passenger in a taxi. Which is scarey wherever you go.

It's not Cali and WA drviers that make bad drivers, it's the Canadians and the illegals that cause all the crap on the highway. As a former Cali native, we know to get the bleep out of the way and how to keep traffic flowing when merging on the freeway. Like the signs say: SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT. If you're going to pass someone either left or right lane, pass and don't slow down when you're side by side especially if their is slower traffic ahead. That's when it goes to hell.

X2 Amen on the "live close to work"
I lived in the UK for 8 years and drove all over Europe. Europeans have a different driving culture than here, but one generalization is true - they are better drivers than us in the USA. They understand that driving is a privilege, not a right. They are taught to drive, not cruise. Because the cost of driving is relatively so much more expensive over there than here, they take care of their cars better and for a longer period of time. Because the roads are generally narrower and more crowded, they know how to handle their (generally smaller) cars better.
When somebody over here does something stupid on the roads, it's generally becuase they're.... well.... stupid! They don't have a clue. But when somebody in Europe displayed the same type of stupid driving, it was usually because they did it on purpose - they were aware they were doing it. Doesn't make it better, but you get the point. I became a better driver living over there for that time. I could hardly stand driving here when I got back. It took me a while to get used to driving around people that are mostly asleep at the wheel. I still shake my head at what I see on the roads here.
