I've got a bone stock motor with some supplemental upgrades, and all I can say is that I am impressed. Thanks to Jrichker's post, I decided to try the toluene in my gas tank. My octane as of right now is about 95.6. On the first test I put it in and left the timing alone, and I did not see any difference. The next trial I advanced the timing to 16* and definately felt an increase right off the line, and above 3500rpm. Went back home and decided to advance the timing to 18*. I got detonation that time, so I backed it back down to 16*. And this is in 110* arizona heat. The engine runs smoother and cooler. I can keep my hand on the upper intake for like a minute, its that cool. I would definately recommend this to any one who is using a power adder. And thanks jrichker for the heads up.

Interesting.

How do you know the octane? Are we still talking Mon+Ron/2?

Did you run with 16 degrees before using the Toluene? How bout 18 degrees? How did that compare to with Toluene?

I am very interested in this. I have been taking baseline data (for about 3mo now), to compare the affects of Acetone in the fuel.

How much Toluene did you add to the fuel? What ratio did you use. Do you have any fuel economy data?

I used the equation in the post to determine octane. Originally i was running w/ 14* no toluene, then I added 1 gallon to a litle over 1/2 tank of 91 octane WITH 14*... NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE, THEN 16*...BIG DIFFERENCE, then 18*, I felt more power, but backed off when I heard detonation, I think it is still too hot out here for that aggressive of timing. I do not know about fuel mileage, cause I can't keep my foot off of the gas. But I have 2 gallons of the stuff left, so I will start calculating on my next fill up. (If I can just drive it normal. I think that an aod backed car will feel it more than a stick. And this is definately not my imagination, there is a definate sotp feeling. I just wish that my trac-lok was in working order, and that the air temp was around 75*. I love cheap HP!
