well sadam was convicted for crimes against humanity. the way i see it is that bush lied to the world about weapons of mass destruction which in turn triggered a war in which 30k+ iraqi civilians have lost there lives. imo that is a crime against humanity.

War happens. Wheather he was right about the weapons or not, it was a war. People die in a war. The people that Saddam killed were people of his own country. INNOCENT people. I know the people killed in the war were innocent too.

Theres a funeral tommorrow for a Marine that graduated the same year as me. It sucks, but its what happens during a war.

The fact is, that the war in Iraq is Illegal under international law. The same international law is being used to hang Saddam. The US went into Iraq without the consent of the UN.

International law obviously doesn't extend to the US.

as a vet i totally understand that people die in war. but this war should have never happened, period.

there needs to be accountablity for the leaders of developed countries these days. its very easy to single out a leader of a poor country, but a leader is a leader and should be held to higher standards no matter what country he leads. if there were penalties for this type of behavior, then maybe these leaders would put a little more thought into engaging in this type of junk.

sadam's army killed innocent people from a command he gave. the US armed forces have killed innocent people due to a command bush gave. war or not.

Saddam told them to kill the innocent people. Bush made them go and try and find the weapons. The people that the US killed were more or less "collateral." Bush never gave a direct order to "Kill innocent cicilians" While Saddam on the other hand...

We all know that some US troops killed innocent villagers. They are getting what they deserve for that. But one thing that you might be forgetting is the fact that we are not fighting a uniformed military. They all wear plain clothes. They use women as shields. They are cowards.

Would I prefer if the war never happened? Of course.

honestly man you can try and justify any way you want---colateral, non-uniformed, we are at war, whatever. the fact remains that the US military has accounted for more iraqi casualties than saddam ever did. all because of an order(direct or indirect) that our commander in chief made.

as for the coward part, when americans did it they were called patriots. i am not trying to defend there actions, but they are more justified in there cause than we are in ours. and if you believe the human shield type of stuff you need to understand that MOST of that is propaganda by our media outlets.

war is hell, and that is why it should be avoided at all cost. when a leader casually engages in war like this one then that leader should be held accountable.

i know we will never agree on this and i am not trying to make this personal, i just feel very strongly about this--as do you. so we should prolly just end this and be happy that we are in a situation comfortable enough that we can sit around and discuss this. happy new years.

bimmertech, not to pour gas on the fire but..... the deaths of civilians you are attributing to the us are not our fault. i blame the insurgents who openly target civilian with ieds and small arms. i know we don't really agree on this war but would you prefer to win the war for the wrong reasons or lose the war for the right ones? i'm not trying to drag the debate out on this. i am just trying to interject a point that i don't feel is ever brought up. right or wrong we are here and we have to see this thing to it's conclusion.

i feel(so do alot of high pentagon brass) the conclusion is a reduced US presence. we can't just pull out, but who would the insurgents fight if we weren't there?

it really should not matter who "wins or loses". it should matter what is the right thing to do, cuz that is what good people/countries do.

we should pull out the troops and let those people deal with it on their own, end of story. i feel terrible hearing the news every day about US troops getting killed. its a hopeless situation over there, its really a no win situation.

Thank You!
It's the same as when we nuked the Japanese. They hid military targets in areas populated by civilians. Therefore the blood is on their hands, not ours.

I just think it's funny that all these Americans that think Bush is a war criminal never had to live under Saddam or dictators like him.

The US went into Iraq without the consent of the UN.

Yes uncorrupt UN should decide all!!!

Also

LOL @ someone named Bimmertech being a liberal. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you...

because the US pays for it...If you're going to pay for it, you might as well attempt to make it a legitimate force.
