I have another stoopid question for fellow Saleen owners... :stupid:

Those of you who have convertibles with the Speedster package, how do you store the hard tonneau cover when you don't have it installed on your Mustang?

Do you suspend it from the ceiling, hang it off a wall, place it on a shelf or a stand, etc.?

Do you store it inside of a specially made bag or by itself?

Ever since purchasing my '98 Saleen Cobra, I've been wracking my brain on the best storage solution.

Suggestions/ideas are welcome.

Do you really want to hang the tonneau cover on the wall next to your Saleen.... :nono: I would hate to see that picture after it falls off and damages your car........ Come to think of it, I've never taken the tonneau cover off the speedster! I wonder if I have a top under there??? :p

Mine was sitting on top of my dogs crate. I'd store it flat if you can. Hanging it on the wall is not the worst thing. Most people do.
I have yet to see someone hang it over the car in the garage like an Mercedes vert top. That would be cool.

I think my tonn. has become a permanant fixture on my stang. The storage bag is a nice piece. It is pretty heavy duty (thick, vinyl and felt) and has an opening for the hold-down buckle to come out , so that you can hang it, say on the wall.

Unfortunately since I purchased my Cobra used, the original owner didn't provide me with a Saleen storage bag (assuming, of course, that he actually had one when he originally purchased the car). I'll probably just have a local upholstery/convertible top shop sew one up for me.

My open rafter garage is a possibility to store the tonneau flat between the rafters, but it would be a real pain to get it up there & bring it down because it is so heavy & awkward. I'd prefer to hang it on the wall, but I don't yet know how I would do so. I've considered some type of hooks or brackets, a cargo netting contraption, a fabricated holder that it would slide into & all sorts of ideas. Some less practical than others.

Space is limited so the wall hanging idea would be preferrable, but I might just end up purchasing one of those hoist devices that Marcus mentioned that are used for removable hardtops ala MBs, T-Birds, Vettes, etc. Unfortunately they are not inexpensive.

I appreciate the responses. Thanks.

Those of you who hang your tonneau covers from the wall, do you use the buckles that connect the front portion to the female seat belt receptacles?

If you are going to hang it on the wall, using the safety belt strapes would help out. You could always use tie-downs to secure it to the wall. Just make sure you have a Uhaul pad or someother soft pad to wrap the tonneau with to keep the finish looking good......Good luck

My idea was to use the buckles with a couple of hooks then a cargo net from a pick-up truck bed to hold the tonneau against the wall so it wouldn't move around. I'll have to experiment to see if this is a viable option.

Or you can get a set of female buckles from the Ford parts department and bolt them to the studs in the garage....then buckle up :nice:
The cargo net could is a nice touch as well. Make sure you take a few pictures of the final assembly to give us other speedster owners a good idea if we ever decide to remove it from the car.....
