so I went to the track tonight with my 98gt the track didn't really hook that well but it was fun. anyway I was really surprised with my car!! it ran a 14.2 at 98 with a 2.1 60ft. it has a full bassani ex. with stock manifolds, a pi intake, and a cai with some weight gone. and 4.10s. but man there is hope yet for this thing!! I know with a better launch it would have been in the 13s. so what are you guys runnin with the same mods?

That gives me some how for my car. After this weekend, we will have very similar mods. Just keep practicing and you should dip into the 13s

That's pretty good. It seems like all too often, these poor NPI cars are stuck running 15's.... or even worse 16's. I was never sure if my car was factory freak or no one else could drive.

More than likely, your car is just better maintained and you can drive better than the people running 15s and 16s. My car is pretty slow with 2.73s but once I get my 4.10s I think it should move pretty well.

I know 4.10s will help a lot, get a good tire and do a massive burnout and launch the piss out of it, I was getting my best times shifting at 5500

I ran a 14.8(2.3 60" ) with my heavy ass vert.

All I had was a PI intake and an O/R X pipe.

I suck at driving, but hopefully with PI cams and 3.73's I lower those E/T's some more.

Nice to see some of you folk touching the bottom of 14 sec. mark.

What are some of y'all automatic NPIs running? I haven't broken into the 14's yet (close, but not quite) and I have PI intake, PI cams, pulleys, CAI, and catback. Yea yea, I know my car is slow, and I was just wondering how much the auto was hurting me.

look into getting a stall converter and gears. you should be in the 14s already. you sure nothing else is going on that is slowing you down?

The way your car sits now you should be able to get a 13.9 with a sticky tire and some more practice.

Main things going against me: auto tranny, no gears, no tune, and factory exhaust. I don't know which one is most responsible for my sluggish times, which is why I was wondering what other auto NPIs are doing. That would tell me how much of a problem the tranny is.

I see that you did a swap to a five speed? Did you take the car to the track with the auto? Just curious, I know my 96' GT is weak but it is my DD. I have the 5.0 for the fun car but like I told my wife, when the auto takes a dump I will swap a manual in.

Hey good luck on grabbing that 13 sec slip, whenever you do grab that 12sec, it feels good. But dont call your stang a pile, that hurts her feelings plus
Confidence + good driver = good times
Calling car a pile = mad pony and bad times
good luck!

Yup, I took it to the track after the swap. I'm sure with the auto it would have ran a 15 or so, it just felt sooo sluggish with the 4r70w in there.

I did have the aluminum driveshaft after the manual swap so I'm sure that helped.

The swap does change the car COMPLETELY, I recommend it to anyone especially since its such an easy job.
