Front tire rolling resistance + Air resistance = Real world

The only Mustangs that a speed limiter are V6 models and the early GT's with 16" wheels since the tires were H (130mph) rated.

Not true... I know for a fact that the mach1's have a limiter just over 150 stick and it's lower on the auto's....

i hit just over 140 with some work. pulled good till right around 130. but fell on it's face acceleration wise. i might have been able to stretch it to 145 but i saw cars probably 3 miles away so i threw her in nuetral and coasted, only to have my doors absolutly blown off by a Z28 and one hell of a backfire from his pipes when he let off the gas.

our stangs dont need limiters, unless they got around 400 hp, ive actually read that these mustangs will get airborne at or around 180mph, btw is everyone just speculating about the aerodynamics of the 05's or are there actual drag coefficient #s out there??? cuz looks can be decieving

Verts have a 120 mph governor don't they? I had mine up to 162 before when I shut down. I used the Diognostic display on the odometer to read past 150. Does putting it in neutral and coasting at high speeds really hurt?

unless why speedometer is way off they don't. i have had it up above 120 on numerous occasions. as for throwing it in neutral didn't seem to have an problems. just threw in in nuetral and coasted down the hill then when i started the climb it slowed me back to around 85 for my cruising speed.

so far in my 02 gt i have gone 140 in 4th gear. i kno that wasnt very smart, i was holding about 6200 for a few seconds, then shifted to 5th and started slowing down cuz i started to run into traffic again (15 freeway at about 9pm on a weekday ) like i saw on a cardomain profile "please dont drive faster than yur gardian angle can fly"

Sure... A Viper would go 300mph the way it's geared... but only onthe moon with no air resistance

What do you think is my top speed with my setup ?

I got to 144 on a downhill incline that was in 5th gear. My 1999 would only see about 120 this car seems faster.

Did your 99 have 16" rims? I'm rev limited to 125 MPH.

It was embarassing on the dyno.

who cares what the dyno top speed is? it means nothing, many cars out there can do 200mph on a dyno, depends on the tranny gearing. it's the Wind resistance that makes you have a real top speed.

1992 2.3LX - i just read your 'to do list' you better add forged internals if you want that head/cam-KB combo.

Not that top speed really matters too much but, I find it odd where you guys top out at in each gear. Unless my speedo is on crack, 3rd gear is somewhere around 110-112mph and 4th is about 140-143, then at that point I can shift into fifth and the car will actually slow down heh.

Whats up everyone. Today I had my car on the Dynojet Chassis dyno at school and I made a few pulls and at the end I made a top speed run. My 02 mustang gt is supposed to be governed at like 152-154 MPH. Well I got the car up to 193 MPH at only 5100 RPM so I had a little over 1000 RPMS left before it hit the rev limiter and it was still pulling quite strong. I shut it down due to the fact I didnt know how the tires were handeling it (nitto 555's) and I was worried about overheating or breaking something. I am going to put the car on the dyno again next week to see if I can break 200 MPH. Does anyone have any idea of how it made it to 193 eventhough it was supposed to shut down around the mid 150s? I bought the car used and bone stock so I know it wasnt reprogrammed. I dunno if Ford takes there governor signal from the front wheel speed sensors or the rear. The ABS light came on considering the rear wheels were spinning and the front were not moving at all. I talked to a Ford Fact instructor and he said that the PCM might take an average of all 4 WSS but he wasnt for sure. He also said since the ABS light was on it might have disregarded readings from the WSS all together. Any ideas?

i have a 99 auto, with 17 inch wheels. the fastest i have went was about 137...she had more in her, but the acceleration was bad over 120 or so. i only did this once on the parkway at 3 am, with not a single car in sight. i don't really care too much about top speed.

I have had mine pulling like a horny blonde on her first time going over 140 on the highway and shut her down at around 145 cause of the curve in the highway and instinct told me to back off.... Point being is I have a auto and at the time the only mod was a K&N filter. I dont know maybe my girl just wanted to give me a ride of my life that day lol..... but damn did she accelerate passed 100 did not take long AT ALL to get to 145 when I backed off.

With my current gears, I probably get my top speed in 5th.
If I put some 3.73 I might get more top speed on 6th...
Now I read:
80mph@3000rpm on 5th-->160mph @6000rpm?
110mph@3000rpm on 6th.

5th pulls like crazy at 80mph, I get to 100mph within few seconds. I guess I'll give it a try soon above the 100mph law-limit speed...
