I am replacing the tranny in my 89 gt AOD. So i decided while the tranny is out that I should put in a shift kit and upgrade my torque converter. So here is my situation. I need some input on what brand of Torque converter and shift kit i should look into. My car is bone stock. If it wasn't for the TV cable disconnecting I wouldn't be doing tranny work. Any suggestions would be great Thanks

I used a b&m before it was ok, the precision industries torque converter I had was hands down awesome and custom made too, but a bit $$. http://www.converter.com/stallion.htm

as for shifts kits, i usually use transgo. u have to be careful not to go too aggressive on a stock aod. (heavy rotating mass) unless you go to a solid input shaft and non lockup convertor. tcsproducts dot com

I would honestly not go with a shift kit and just buy yourself a Lentech Valve body which will straighten out your shifting pattern, and get a good Lentech torque converter as well. The combination will make you very happy with the shifting and make your car seem a heck of a lot faster and the installation is cake.

Another vote for a Lentech Valve Body,it is well build and shift firm . Not having to playing around with springs and check balls is a plus with a bolt on Valve body. But if you could torn down a AOD tranny then you should have no problem with a shift kit too. For a stock car I would save a few buck and get a off the shelf B&M 2400 Holeshot or a Edge Converter. The excellent Lentech Converter is custom build to your Engine/Gearing combo and is kind of overkill for a stock Mustang. Plus you are looking a around $600 for that converter. I would use the saving on a tranny cooler ( A must with highter stall converter ) and a A-Servo set up.
