I am lookin' for cheap but good torque wrench, what you guys/gals use , which brand, what is the price and how good is it? Thanks.

If your just looking for cheap and good (kinda hard if you REALLY want quality)...I would just go craftsman. Get a ft/lb. and seperate in/lb. if you can.

After using the father-in-laws snap-on trq. wrenches (DAMN cool bonus the father-in-law is a dealer and lets me use the tools...helllova cool guy to boot). They are better. The one I used to put my motor together is of a line that gets QC'd by cliking like 100k times and has to be something around 5% or less out of spec. . Damn things are like 800$+ IIRC though.

I have a digital snap-on torque wrench but it cost me $400.00, it's cool though.

LOL I spend alot on tools, I used to be a mechanic but now im an Iron worker...somethings never change, i always chase down a snap on truck to buy tools, S#!t my rollaway 7 ft. box with stainless top cost me 7k with NO tools...I did get a free 6 pack cooler though

I got one at NAPA with a lifetime warranty and is pretty good quality wrench, IMO. Can't remember how much it was, but I think between $40-60.

I found the Harbor Freight ones to be really inconsistent and way off. I'm very happy with all 3 craftsman ones with the twisty handles.

Ditto, I'm very happy with all of my craftsman tools. Got my torque wrench on sale for I think $100 CDN, IIRC.

Snap-on 1/2" Digital here, their newest version is pretty sweet. About $450 bones, but is a very nice piece.

Had to buy that when someone jacked my 3/8" one

I have a $350 1/2 snap on torque wrench. Pretty bad assed, but I got it free in the skills USA states competition I won. Along with a few other tools by matco.

thats why i use it for wheels only


when i did my motor i borrowed a snap on wrench to tq everything it was so nice

I prefer the new Snap-on stuff compared to new cracked handled matco and stripped out mac ratchets and the maribou screwdrivers matco has. Also like how quickly the chrome flakes off on anything from SK/Folcom.

I was at Sears the other day looking at upgrading from my "antique" torque wrenches to some clickers and ran into a guy that did engine building on the side - he said he had broken two Sears clickers and after the hassle with the Sears replacement (not a lifetime warranty) he bought a Snap-on and has had it ever since.

I borrowed my neighbor's Harbor Freight clicker wrench to torque my oil pan bolts on my '72 Mach 1 because there was very little room to work my other wrench. I ended up breaking two bolts off in the block using it - was it the bolts fault (new bolts) or the wrenches? I dunno.

But when it comes to something as important as a torque wrench, it looks like you get what you pay for. This whole dang hobby is like that.

Look at snap on chrome VS. Craftsman chrome, the sears stuff is yellow in comparison.
