trac-loc rebuild help/tips

It is 2 fibers that you will be reusing from the old pack. Find the best 2. With the side gear laying on bench add plates in this order. fiber/steel/f/s/f/s/f/. So you will have a total of 4 fibers and 3 steels on each side gear and will be discarding 2 new steels. You should get a shim kit with your kit also. Now take the .035 shims and put 1 one on top of each side gear on top of the last fiber. Now try to assemble this into the carrier. If the spiders wont twist in. replace the .035 with .030 or .025. If it twists in easy then step up a shim size. The trick is to use the thickest shim possible. Both shims must be the same on the left and right side gears. This setup gives you 33% more surface area = 33% more lockup.

You will have the old shims from the old clutch pack. Make sure you check the diff if they are not sitting on top of the last fiber plate. Sometimes they stick from the oil and stay in there.

something I do is put the shim on the concrete floor and move it around with my foot, thus making light scratches on both sides. makes for more grip. Ive done it with tranny steels too.

stangman 393.....I'm needing your help. How did you get your springs back in after removing them and replacing the trac loc disc/steels? I'm in the middle of a rebuild.....
