anyone a member of a Mustang club in the Portland Oregon area that participates in open track days ? I don't want a full race ride to drive to work, but it would be nice to see how well some of the modifications are working as I add them.

Howdy Ken, four or five of us mustangers are going "open-tracking" on Aug. 17th at PIR. Cascade Sports Car Club offers a great school for $165 for first-timers. And after attending the school you can go HPDE 1 for only $130. Go to their site at http://www.cascadesportscarclub.org/training.asp?page=home to register. We have a blast running around the course, and always have room for another in our gang. Sign up early, they fill up fast. See ya there! Steve

Jenn let me know that you were interested in doing some HPDE events at PIR. I've done several track days over the last few years. As Steve mentioned CSCC has an upcoming track day. In fact, I need to get off my lazy ass and get signed up. I really like CSCC. If you have not participated in a track day I highly recommend that you have an instructor with you the first time.
Team Continental is another club that puts on open track event. TC is geared toward teaching and requires that an instructor be in the car during all sessions. My best and favorite event was last February with TC. The instructor was great and the event went extremely well. The Corvette and BMW clubs have events as well.
If you've seen the schedule, you've noticed that PIR is closing early this year to resurface the track. So if you are going to do an event this year get crackin' and sign up.
Hey guys, I'm an avid track whore as well. I've seen a couple very fast stangs on the course (yes, it surprised me)
What kind of work is going into these cars to be able to lap so well for a car that I know as not the best road holding car in the world. I'm pretty interested, especially since an older 5.0 would make an interesting track toy at some point.
Here are the mods on my '92GT;
Cobra brakes front and rear (brake ducts using the fog light holes)
Maximum Motorsports coil-overs front and rear (stiff ass springs)
Maximum Motorsports strut tower brace
Sub-frame connectors
The rest of the suspension is stock and so is the engine. The car has 190k miles on it.
I get around PIR in the mid 1'34" range with a few laps in the 1' 31" range.
Fox bodied stangs work pretty well. And since they are pretty cheap it's not the end of the world if you blow it up. On the other hand they are no where near as safe as the newer models.
