for an 05 GT

had to grab my ankles a bit on the trade but the deal worked out well. whats weird is that all of a sudden a GT popped up out of nowhere, with the exact options i would have chosen had i ordered one. to top that off, with the crazy dealer markups lately, this dealer actually gave it to me @ sticker (after some lengthy negotiating)

Which dealer?

aagvain,

I am interested to know why you traded it in? Did you feel like you made a mistake getting the V6? Did you drive a GT and figure out you bought the wrong car??? I think you are the first one I have heard of doing this so I was just wondering why the change of heart.

Thanks

Congrats! Sounds almost like mine (patiently waiting...).

I'm sure you did take it in the shorts to trade in a new car on a more expensive newer car, but I can't say I blame you.

Did the dealer at least use Mobil 1 on ya? :D

i traded in a truck before i even had it a year. i took it up the whoo-whoo too but IMO it's worth it to have something you really want. congrats on the new beast. PICS.

the dealer was gillespi (spelling?) in san antonio. they had 2, one of which was spoken for. mine was an ordered one that never got picked up.

gneal - was it a mistake getting the 6, well yes and no. the 6 itself is an awesome car. i loved it. i had always wanted the gt, but always have told myself to be financially conservative, which meant not spending the extra money on the gt. well the last couple of weeks i've been slowly convincing myself that, as corny as it sounds, i'm 31 years old and its time to start enjoying some things i truly want as long as they are within reach. the gt is within reach, even with the loss on trade in, which btw was the only mistake i made in buying the 6. and the loss wasnt as much i was budgeting for.

Yeah.. he DID give it to you, and really didn't do you that much of a favor either as I see it. It was the least he could do. He probably figured he was pushing his luck to ask for additional markup too, but I'll bet that didn't deter him from trying anyway. ie;("lengthy negotiating")

He didn't need to charge more than MSRP, as he's going to make a nice profit on your trade. I'd say between that in itself and you paying MSRP on the GT, he's making more overall profit than what he might normally do, by selling two or three cars involving more typical everyday transactions.
In actuality, you just got the GT at MSRP plus the typical dealer gouging markup of no doubt several thousands of dollars, but disguised as "a good deal" for accepting your trade. I'm betting that he's thankful you were so gracious, and made his weeks' pay in less than a day.

well if you look at it from the salesman's perspective then sure, he did well. any salesman who sells an 05 gt is going to do well. i was looking at it from my situation, trading in a new car and taking a hit. whether or not the overall transaction was a "good deal", in the end i got what i wanted and ended up better than i was expecting.

And if you don't look at it from the salesman's perspective, you will almost certainly get it stuck to you most every time. My initial point being, that when you buy a car on emotion or impulse or when being upside down in a trade, you are looking at any deal thru rose colored glasses in a sense...and it's always/usually going to be worse than it appears in the end.

Without knowing how badly you took it on the trade, it's not possible to determine the extent of how good or bad the "deal" really was. If you're happy, and went into it with your eyes open as you claim, it's probably all that matters.

It's just that you likely got played from both ends (as is most always the case with a trade). The fact the dealer wouldn't give anything under MSRP made him a double winner from the start... which means in a sense, that you lost twice....not counting money you may have put down on the first purchase.
That in itself wouldn't exactly make my day, unless perhaps the car you traded in had ALL the first year problems that have been addressed on this site.

I know what you mean. I turned 45 this year and was going back and forth on which to get v6 or GT. When I told my wife I was debating about which to get, she told me I would be sorry if I didn't get what I wanted. Considering the fact I would have this car for a very long time it just made sense to go ahead and get the GT. Mine will be here the first week of June so I can't wait.

Congrats...
