Ok guys here is the problem, but first a little background on the car. I bought the car as a fixer-upper daily driver, its a 86 5.0 gt. When I bought it I couldn't get the car into 1st or 2nd gear. So I rebuild the transmission, 1st 2nd and 3rd and 5th had to be replace. I also did bearing and sencro kit and steel bearing retainer. I got a new clutch, resurfaced the flywheel, firewall adj, adj cable. Now for the problem, the car when running will not go into gear very easy if at all sometimes. But if the car is off. I can put it into any gear. But when I try to shift from first to second lets say, It feels like I have to pull it out of first. Then it won't go into second, just feels like I could force it in if the car is moving, if its stop I cant really. If Iam at a slow roll and I try and shift from first to second, I have to put a little pressure on the gate and as the car slows down it will go in. If I kinda force it the gears grind. I dont feel the transmission is the problem.

Any Ideas will be helpful, cause Iam all out.

Can you feel any shaking in the clutch pedal with only light pressure on it? If it's not the tranny like you mentioned, then the clutch cable needs adjustment. The shaking would mean it's too "loose."

well, I have had the cable adjusted about every way I can think of. The pedal feels tight, because the current way I have it adjusted. One thing I havent really checked is the arm that the throw out bearing is connected to hits the bell housing.

where does it grab?? If it grabs right off the floor as you're taking off, the clutch is adjusted too loosely

So if you start pushing on the pedal. It grabs about an 1'' or 2'' from the top of the pedal. I did adjust the cable a little bit this morning and I was able to drive it around the block and feel it out a little. I can only get first at a stop or very very slow roll. Second I can get now but I have to shift kinda slow, otherwise it will grind. Third thru fith is no problem, and reverse I can get with a little fanagaling. But as for 1 to 2 shift, it almost feels like 1 and 2 is not a straight throw back. Almost like I need to more the shifter alittle to the right.

Is it possible that this is like just break in troubles and Iam just over thinking it? And I should just drive the darn thing and see if it gets better?

as you're moving from a getgo, how high does it grab as you're letting the clutch up from the floor?? does the car start moving with the clutch pedal right off the floor, or does it start grabbing a few inches up?

in that case, difficult with 1 and 2 gear usually mean a worn gear, a worn slider, and/or worn keys and/or all of the above....bad syncro/blocker ring....possibly bad shift forks too.

you said you replaced first and second, but what about the 1/2 slider??? what kind of condition was that in?

is it just as difficult to shift with the engine off...or is it only difficult when the engine is running?? Difficulty shifting only with motor running usually points to clutch/clutch adj issues...if it's an internal issue, it should do it the same motor on or off.
