Tranny fluid leaking!! Please read!!!!!!!!

I installed my tranny cooler today and after I put it in I started my car and put it in neautral to se if there were any leaks, and there is one.

I'm going to try and explain where the leak is coming from as best I can:
I disconected the upper tranny line from the radiator and put on one of the fittings ( where I disconnected the tranny line from, it screws on ). This is where the leak seems to be coming from. I checked everything three times, everything is tight.

Could I use some kind of sealing compound?

Any help is much apprectiated

If the fitting you installed is not deep like the stock fitting, then the new fitting will probably leak, unless you use some pipe sealant.

I recommend the pipe sealant made by Master Corporation. It works up to 400 degrees fahrenheit.

Just be sure not to screw it on too tightly, because you don't want to strip it or break it. Just hand tighten it and then another 1/4 turn.

Yes. Just put the sealant on all of the threads of the fitting, except maybe the last thread at the end of the fitting. Some of the sealant may ooze out the back when you screw in the fitting, but that's okay.

Another way to do it, is to cut a section out of the stock tranny cooler line, and attach the hoses to the cut ends, so that you can still use the stock fitting. However you have to flare the cut ends with a flare tool, so that the hoses won't slip off.

I guess it doesn't matter which way you do it.

By the way, hopefully you are using the correct size thread for the fitting. The fitting should spin in smoothly, and should be a nice, snug fit. I forget what size thread the stock fittingis, but your new fitting should be the same exact thread size.

But even with the correct thread size, you still need the pipe sealant, unless the fitting is deep like the stock fitting.

A deep fitting with that thread size is hard to find. You won't find such a fitting in the fittings section of Pep Boys, but I did find it as part of a tranny cooler installation adapter kit (unfortunately, I don't remember the stock number), which was in a little box at Pep Boys, near the tranny coolers. But that was at one Pep Boys in Manassas, Virginia. I've yet to see such a kit at a Pep Boys in California.

Anyway, even if it's not a deep fitting, it will work, as long as the thread size is correct, and as long as you use pipe sealant.

Oh wait. I found where I wrote down the stock fitting size.

It's 5/16" deep inverted flare tube.

Note that it's 5/16" TUBE, not NPT.

Also note the inverted flare, which is what keeps it from leaking, because it fits snugly on the flare inside the stock tranny cooler.

Also note that it must be deep, if you want to avoid using a pipe sealant.

So, as long as your fitting is 5/16" TUBE, and as long as you use pipe sealant, it should work.
