when u start the car up cold it will go fine for a couple of miles till it starts to warm up. then it just slips like its in neutral. u cant hit the gas very hard or it just revs up and goes nowhere. it is an automatic tranny. it only has 106,000 and hasnt been driven hard at all.

It has probably never been changed which at that mileage is PATHETIC...

Also, it is probably low.

Odds are that lack of fluid changes and letting it get low has in fact damaged the transmission but you may get lucky.

When dealing with automatic transmission problems always do that which is cheapest and easiest first: change the fluid.

Make sure all of it gets flushed including the fluid in the torque converter.

First...make sure it's full of fluid. While you've got the dipstick check out it's colour and take a sniff. If it a dirty brown and/or smells like someone took a crap in your transmission (literally) then there's a good chance that your forward clutches are burnt. If the fluid is clean and smells fine it could be something as simple as your filter sucking air. Either way, you won't know until you pull it apart.

I’m sorry to say though, that a transmission that works fine initially, then goes south as it warms up sounds like it’s going to need to be overhauled to me. If so….don’t feel so bad. It’ll be a great excuse for you to install a shift kit or an aftermarket toque converter.

Well, overfilling an auto trans can cause foaming and prevent the car from going into gears. You say it is worse when it warms up. It gets warm, expands, foams, and causes the problem. All you have to do is drain a bit out and you should be good to go
