The car is an 01 mustang, the tranny makes a whinning sound when in neutral, when you shift into drive it sounds fine. it shifts fine untill around 40 or so mph. then the rpms clime and the car does not go anywhere, could this be anything besides the od band being fried?
Sounds like you have a band that has been toasted and is slipping badly... Or a pump that can't make enough pressure to clamp the band down properly. In either case, it is a rebuild next...
I just took it for a quick test run. when the car is in N it whines, when you shift into D the whinning stops. i went under and the whining is coming from the front where the torque converter is, first gear also whines till it shifts to second the the whine goes away. when i punch it it goes and does not hesitate. Then if i let off and wait a second then give it a little gas it revs untill i let the rpms come down and eventually catches does this sound like a torque converter or something else?
